Runfessions of a Really Cold Runner

January 28, 2022 by MCM Mama 8 Comments

This month has both been about a million years long AND flown by at the same time. I really meant to write more often this month (and actually wrote some posts in my head, which I had not done in a long time), but I never seemed to find time to write. But I have some Runfessions to get out there, so I’m hooking up with Marcia to bare my sole.

I runfess that even though we are just turning the Omicron corner here, I’m making plans to travel to some races. Right now we are planning to drive, but I’m hopeful that things will change enough that I’m comfortable flying. I have another Mainly Marathons series in mind – the Appalachian Series. But I runfess that I’ve BTDT on the 7 races in 7 days thing, so I’m only planning to do the three states I need – Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina.

I runfess that I finally tried out the Peloton app. I’ve used it a couple of times on my bike and once on my treadmill. I only used it for hiit/speed workouts and I did like it, but I don’t see myself making it an every day thing. It’s definitely nice to have options though.

I must also runfess that I did something a little crazy this month – I ran a virtual 25k on my treadmill. Oh Emm Gee. I will never spend that amount of time on my treadmill again. Ever. I was on the treadmill for more than 3 hours. I should have just run outside in the snow. But I’m sure the Phunt 25K buff will be totally worth it.

Speaking of crazy, I will runfess that I signed up for the 2022 Marine Corps Marathon the minute the deferral hit my inbox. I’m hopeful that we’ll get to run in person (although DOD has its own rules). It will be my 9th year running and my 7th year on the actual course. I can.not.wait.

Finally, I must runfess that I’ve been “holding my breath” all month. Altra doesn’t announce its Red Team until late January, so January is always filled with nerves. Thankfully they brought me back again – for year #8! I love their shoes and would wear them anyways, but it’s fun to be part of their team of Altra runners.

This month has been really crazy – ZOOMA Bermuda is in 3 weeks. I’m not attending, but I have been doing all of the normal pre-race Race Director duties. And let me tell you, when you put on a race in a different country, there’s a whole nother level of stuff to get done. But the end is in sight and some fun changes are coming my way, so it’s all good.

It has been a cold month for us around here. I still can’t seem to do any long runs on treadmill though. Congrats on another year of Altra running. That Bermuda race is on my list for one of these years. Getting there from here this time of the year is not that easy

Congrats on year 8! That’s fantastic. I sure hope you get to do MCM on the actual course this year. Enough is enough already. Cheers to exciting things ahead for you although I will miss you.

Wow- you have a lot of exciting things going on. Running 25K on the treadmill probably wasn’t one of them though. It helped you mental toughness- just look at it like that!
Fingers crossed on the MCM- I want to say things will be better by then but what do I know. We can hope!

Glad to see you ‘fessing with the rest of us! I feel like I’m the only one who hasn’t had the Peloton koolade! I have so much else to keep me busy, I haven’t felt the need to try it. Glad you liked it tho.

Congrats on being picked for the Altra team again! It’s always nice to be asked back, isn’t it?

I’m envious of all your MCM’s!!! I want to return and run that one again. The longest I’ve lasted on the treadmill was a 10K…totally have ZERO desire to go any further, LOL

    Congrats on your Altra assignment.

Bermuda was one of my favorite race experiences. Hope to another Zooma.

I did try peleton and didn’t use it enough. But I may go back.

Good luck on your MCM streak.

I’ve been thinking of using the Peloton app, at least for the first 2 months! I don’t have an exercise bike but all the other classes sound good!

I’m sure MCM will be amazing, hopefully it’ll get to move forward as planned! It’s weird, some races are going back to normal while others are holding off. I haven’t been on a plane since the pandemic either – nothing wrong with a road trip! I hope you have a great time!

Congrats on another year with Altra! I have a few more states to run in as well and have looked into Mainly Marathons (mine are half marathons). However, the ones I need to run are in October and that always conflicts with school. It used to be in the Summer and wonder why they changed it. Kudos for running that many miles on your treadmill. I would have done the same if there was crappy weather.
