Ok, big news around here – I’ve been invited to the Runner’s World Half and Festival in October.
The Runner’s World Half and Festival has been on my to do list for a while now, but fall is a busy time around here and the date never really worked for me. Apparently procrastinating worked and now I not only get to run, I get to be one of the bloggers attending all the events. One other cool thing about this year is that Runner’s World added a trail race on Friday. I’m excited to run all four races: 3.8 mile trail, 5k, 10k, and half marathon. (Add those numbers up and what do you get…?) I’m a teensy tiny bit nervous about it being the weekend before Marine Corps Marathon, but I survived two marathons in two days, I think I can manage it, even though it’s likely I won’t be going for a PR at any of the races. Use code blogmcmmamaruns to get the discount shown in the graphic.
So, now back to the regularly scheduled program. I’m joining up with my friends Deborah, Coco, and Lynda for a virtual coffee date.
If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that I’ve been having a rough time with training lately. I do not do well in humidity at.all. I’m not a fan of hot either. My runs this week included two “failed” ones. I went out for 12 miles and both times threw in the towel at 6 miles. I just could not breathe! Thankfully, yesterday the crazy humidity ended and this morning I was up at dawn and got in 12 miles. Yay! I’m back on track with the plan now, so I think better days are ahead. I’ve learned a lot about training with this plan and will share it soon.
If we were having coffee, I’d tell you we have the world’s most obstinate squirrel in our attic. We’ve got a one way door on the hole, so it’s just a waiting game until it leaves, but get.out.of.my.house! It’s in a confined area of our attic, which means it’s right above our bed, so I’ve been sleeping on the couch after it wakes me up at night. Sleeping on the couch = awful sleep, so I’m doubly impressed with myself that I got up and ran early this morning.
If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that I had a great time with #31DaysofSkirtSports on instagram. I’m not sure I missed a single day. Don’t forget that next up is the Virtual Boobie Run! Register and get a gift certificate for one of the Skirt Sports Bras. And if you use code SSMCM20, you get 20% off your entry!
If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that Beer Geek is out on an all day bike ride today with a friend. There will be brewpubs involved, so I’ll be joining them at a few hours for lunch and then again for dinner. I’m driving there. Yet another example of why it’s good Beer Geek and I prefer different sports.
Finally, if we were having coffee, I’d tell you that the Tuesdays on the Run topic this week is “free topic”. Write about anything running related that you want.
Here are the topics for the rest of August:
- August 11 – Fall Racing Schedule – tell us where we’ll see you this fall! What’s your big race? Inquiring minds want to know.
- August 18 – Running Role Models/Runners You Admire – Is there one person that comes to mind or do you have a bunch of runners you admire? Tell us who and why!
- August 25 – Running Bras – What brands are you favorite? I’ll share mine (just found a new one to love this past week!) and I’d love to hear about yours! (See note above about the Boobie Run!)
So, we’ll see you there, right???
Happy Saturday! What would you share with me if we were having coffee??? Who wants to join me to run the Runner’s World Half?

That’ll be a big weekend in October. Not that you haven’t done big weekends before. Actually I think you thrive on big weekends.
I do love my multi-race challenges LOL.
I did the one & only heartbreak half . Only the half! I can’t fathom doing all those races together (plus that one was a heat wave after weeks of cool weather). And I already did my half in PA . . . Gettysburg, which I really enjoyed, despite being injured.
The weather should be about perfect that weekend and I’m used to back to back races, so it should be fun. I’ll be running them at a fun pace rather than racing them.
Very cool that you are going to the runner’s world weekend. I was going to try to make it last year but had conflicting priorities. This year will be a challenge, too, with fall century rides and cyclocross racing. Although a 3.8 mile trail run could be interesting. I’ll have to check that out. I live about an hour south of there.
Ooh, let me know if you end up coming up to the race. I know I’ll have events, but I’m sure I can meet up with you at the race.
The runner’s world half sounds like so much fun! It’s been on my radar for a while. Thanks for linking up with us today for the coffee date!
Yeah, I’d been considering it, but so many other things on the calendar. I am looking forward to it though.
I think the Runner’s World half will be tons of fun. I’m with you on the humidity. My lungs are screaming…where is the air? I feel I need a countdown widget to fall.
Yes, make that widget please. ;o) Of course, VA likes to mess with my head, so we’ll have some lovely cool days and then it will bounce back up to high 90s, ugh.
congrats on the Runner World weekend- that sounds like tons of fun! I have been running all summer in Florida, I keep telling myself what doesn’t kill me will make me stronger! I agree with HoHo we need a countdown widget to fall!
Yes, I’m so ready for fall. I saw some fall beers in the store today, so I have to hope that the cooler weather is on its way!
Ugh. I am afraid that even my fall racing schedule is in jeopardy with this damn foot. It’s been 10 weeks since I chipped the bone and did who knows what to the tendons. I think I need to get an MRI but don’t want to know until after our vacation which we plan to spend hiking in the Grand Canyon ….
Ugh, I hope it decides to heal soon. Have fun at the Grand Canyon!
Congrats on the Runner’s World weekend! I keep hoping one year the dates will work for me, but October is always a crazy month of too many moving parts. I’m so with you on both the heat and humidity – I’m over it!
Id tell you I had a GREAT GREAT WEEKEND!!!
first one in what feels like years.
Runner’s World is on my bucket list. Congrats on being invited to be an official blogger!
Oh my gosh, that is the coolest news ever! The Runner’s World event? Hello, how awesome. What on earth are you going to do about that Squirrel? What if he does not leave? That is funny, but not. Can I laugh about that? We usually don’t have humid weather here in Northern California, but we have had some super hot temps and triple digits. I am a pansy and have to run early in the morning as I hate the heat and running.
Thanks for coffee this weekend:)
