Just in case you were wondering, yes, I do have the t-shirt (or tank as the case may be.)
This week on Tuesdays on the Run, Patty, April and I want to hear about YOUR mantras! What gets you through a hard run? What gets you out there when you aren’t feeling the run love? Be forewarned: I steal mantras. I’ll take them and make them mine and use them to get through a bad run. ;o)
Suck it up, buttercup has been my favorite mantra for years. Why? Because my mind is often wimpier than my body. My body can do so much more than I ask of it, but my mind is too afraid to ask.
Don’t want to finish the distance? Suck it up, buttercup, you can run that far.
Don’t feel like running fast? Suck it up, buttercup. Working hard is good for you.
Don’t want to run that day? Suck it up, buttercup. You’ll feel good once you get going.
Also? I sing “Bottles of beer on the wall” in my head when I’m having a hard time getting through a mile. (Yes, I do realize, I’m strange.)
Tell me: Do you have a mantra? How do you get through tough runs?

I like that saying (although i’ve never said it to myself)!
Hahaha bottles of beer on the wall might actually work for me. I will have to try it. Thanks for letting me link up!
I always start thinking about people who can’t run and I tell myself to keep going, you are almost done.
Suck it up buttercup is my mantra too!!
I have a few things I repeat to myself depending on the day. Run to be done. Just keep running. Keep your pace. Knees and elbows. I like the “suck it up” and similar tough talk because normally when I tell myself that it makes me laugh to myself a bit and I can keep pushing.
ride the pain train has been prominent lately. it’s so silly but it works for me!
Haha, I sing songs in my head all the time to get me through! I don’t really have mantras, but I do the “you only have to get to that mailbox” a lot 🙂
My mantra lately has been just do it for one more minute, you can do anything for one more minute. I keep pushing though my runs that way.
Probably “you got this”. My head will give up long before my body and I need to remind myself I can do it. Missed the link up this time. Hope to be back next week
I say “suck it up” a lot!!! I also say, “it’s only 3 (2, 1) more miles – that’s nothing!”
I love Suck It Up Buttercup! I used to have it on two little bands on my roadID, but Suck It Up got lost so now it just says Buttercup!
I have 2 mantras : pain is temporary, pride is forever. Whether you think you can or whether you think you can’t, you are right.
I love this slogan. My son said it to me once when I was whining about going out for a run in the rain — after he had a season of monsoon weather for his lacrosse games.
My mantra for this marathon? “I can and I will!”
You got this! I must remind myself that 15 times! Although buttercup is very classic!
YEP YEP YEP
have the tee 🙂
I like the modified version of SIUP Suck it up Princess, because I’m a Diva Princess. lol.
But I like keep moving version better since if I’m in a nasty place being told (by myself) gets me in an even more nasty mood.
Strange, but, I don’t really have a mantra.
I’m going to have to come up with one.
Ok seriously my mantra? “now or never”. “get your mind right”. “finish this so you can go home”. And I am being honest that is what gets me through. LOL
Singing Bottles of Beer on the wall made me laugh! Im trying that on
My next long run!
My nickname among the runners I know is Buttercup. As in your mantra. And yes, I have the t-shirt, too. :-p
