Spring is definitely here. Yesterday and today were both in the low 70s by late afternoon. While that’s perfect capri weather when hanging out, it’s shorts weather for running.
I hate running in shorts. I have rather heavy thighs (seriously, my thighs could be the “before” picture in a weight loss photo and the rest of me would be the “after” picture.) I always thought that eventually they’d slim down with all of the running. Instead, they are stronger and more muscular, but still large. Because of that, I find wearing compression shorts with a long inseam to be the only comfortable way to run. Somehow, I feel comfortable running races in them with just a short tech tee (’cause I’m more concerned about speed than appearance LOL). However, I don’t really feel comfortable running like that in my neighborhood. I end up wearing a long tech tee, which gets somewhat annoying. I’ve been thinking about trying the skirtsports running skirts as they get good review for the undershort staying down, but I’m not sure if they will work. Guess one of these days I’ll have to order some and just see how they work.
Today’s run was nice. I did an easy 4 miles (37:26). I just took Garmin along for the ride so that I could track mileage and discovered I still start too fast. I did try to keep my strides shorter and footfall more under my body, but I was still slower in the last two miles.
Life starts getting crazy soon. Jones starts soccer next weekend and he has two games next weekend and two games the weekend after that. I have the 10 mile race this coming Sunday, then possibly a 5K, then the half marathon, then the “Girls on the Run” 5k where I’ll be a buddy runner again. Then I have a couple of weeks off and then a 10 mile race in Wisconsin with my dad. I have to admit, I do thrive on being busy, so the next couple of months will be fun for me.
sounds like life is getting crazy in a GOOD way though.i happen to like running in skirts. you might also try getting something you can wear over the compression shorts you are happy with already. me, i can’t run with most of the skirts with shorts because of issues with the shorts riding up or chafing or what not – i prefer the ones with briefs underneath. but i like the ones with shorts for the gym. and i’ve done what i suggested – worn them over favorite compression shorts and all was good.
love love love running skirts! i have huge thighs too … so i know what you mean.
I’m with you on the big thighs, unfortunately. Sounds like the next few weeks will be a lot of fun!
Sounds like you have a busy schedule. But that’s your thing, so enjoy.I don’t own a pair of running shorts. I wear skirts. Actually, I’m all about skirtsports. I’m not a fan of the skirt with the spankies underneath. I have too much behind for that. Yeah, I carry my weight on the bottom too. Get the ones with the shorties underneath. The shorties have pockets on both sides too. I carry my phone and mp3 player with no problem. I have 3 running dresses too. I love them.
You are going to be super busy!! That’s a crazy amount of races you’re doing! I’m glad you like being so busy. :)I love my Running Skirts. I haven’t done any long runs in them yet but they are so comfy, I like to just wear them around the house.
I can honestly say I’ve never worn a running skirt, and I don’t plan on wearing one at all! However, I used to be self conscious of my “stork” legs when I ran in shorts. Now I don’t even give it a second thought, since most other runners also have “problem areas.” Bottom line is, don’t worry about what other people might think, and run in weather appropriate attire. Sounds to me like your runner’s physique is the same as most other woman runners, so relax! That was meant to ease your mind from a male perspective…I hope it worked!!
I love running in shorts. But that’s probably because I’m so used to them. Personally, I’ve never run in the running skirts, but there are many women who love them!
I was going to mention the running skirt too. They aren’t for me, but I know some people who LOVE them.
Compression shorts work best for me, too, and I’ve got the chafe scars from looser shorts to prove it. My problem with my skirt was wearing it on a blustery day– I felt like a LOT was exposed. You’re right though– when racing, I don’t really care about that. But when people I know could be driving by me and recognize me? Embarrassing.
I did try to keep my strides shorter and footfall more under my body, but I was still slower in the last two miles. …This seems to be the latest rage. I’m trying this, too, mostly so that I don’t reinjure my knee, which I have arbitrarily decided happened because I heel-strike with my natural, long stride.I have no proof of this, though. What’s with you skirts and your hatred of your large thighs? Have you ever seen Tina Turner? Her thighs are HUGE yet she’s considered to have GREAT legs.Of course those big-thighed legs are not my cup of tea, but what do you care? I already love you for your great beer selection and that’s a love that runs deeper than any leg-based love, sister.
Yup, I’ve got big thighs too – my shorts always seem to bunch up. I’ve been running in skirts for the last year and they really ARE the answer. I have skirtsports but also runningskirts.com and I actually prefer the fabric of the runningskirts ones. It’s a bit thicker and their athletic skirt is a little bit longer, hides more.
I love being busy too! I personally love my running skirts and I have huge quads!
I just bought a running skirt after laughing at how silly they were for the past two years and…I am a TOTAL convert! I love them! I got a pair from REI and they rock.Re: girls on the run! I have done it before and it was great! We might be out of town that weekend, though. Let me check with hubby.
I’ve never run in skirts but there are some cute ones out there. My favorite pair of shorts are soccer shorts and I did find a running pair from title nine that I like. Hope you have fun with all of your adventures coming up!
It's good to know there are so many of us with big thighs! I thought it was just me. 🙂 I have eternally run in bike shorts & a pair of regular shorts over them. My favorite bike-style shorts are from skirtsports–you can buy shorties on their own, & I wear this pair under shorts AND my running skirts. The short liners in my Champion skirt & my skirtsports skirt are not tight enough to stay put & they creep up & I'll get chub rub if I don't wear that extra pair of shorties underneath. I need to find a skirt that has the tight shorts underneath so I can get to just one article of clothing on my lower half. But I get 4 pockets when I wear my skirtsports combo!Let us know if you get a skirt & what you think.
