(Anyone else have the song “Heat of the Moment” stuck in their head now? N0? OK, I’m old…)
As you know, I’m a Skirt Sports Ambassador. I’m an ambassador because I love their skirts and I’ve been running in them for years. In the warmer months, you’ll find me in my Happy Girl skirts. As it cools down, I move to my Lotta Breeze Capris. But now, it’s cold. Some days it’s really, really cold.
So, what’s a skirt girl to do? Skirts with tights, of course. I’ll be the first to admit I’ve thrown a Happy Girl skirt over a pair of running tights. I love the warmth it gives my tush. But lately, I’ve been enjoying the Heartbreaker.
In the picture above, fellow Ambassador Deborah and I are both wearing Heartbreaker Skirts. Our body types could not be more different, but the skirt/tights works beautifully for both of us! My only complaint is that it does not come in additional patterns LOL.
From the Skirt Sports website:
- Built-in slim cut leggings
- Two panel outer skirt
- Non-chafing flatlock stitching
- Two pockets to fit nutrition, music player, ID and more
- 28″ inseam length provides enough coverage for taller women, yet looks great on petite women as well!
- Sonic Music Port under waistband for headphone cord
- Breathable UV50+, pill and snag resistant, wicking fabric
- 88% Polyester / 12% Spandex super soft peached jersey
- Skirt length (medium): 11.5” front | 13” back
At 5’3″, the leggings are have a little extra at the bottom, but I hardly notice and it helps keep my ankles warm. And as well all know, I’m a long skirt girl, but I find this skirt covers enough because the tights underneath are fairly thick. Most importantly, it keeps my “assets” warm. Ahem. I’ve worn this skirt quite a few times already this year (including on my longest training run this season) and expect I will continue to wear it, wash it, and wear it again right off the drying rack.
Today when I head out on my 12 mile run, guess what I’ll be wearing? Ok, I have two of them, so there are still some secrets.
Stay tuned to hear about the Ice Queen Ultra skirt. It’s only been cold enough to wear it once this year and I discovered that perhaps I’ve been eating a few too many snacks (the skirt is not as stretchy as most Skirt Sports skirts), so I’m exchanging it for a different size. I’m sure Virginia will get another deep freeze this winter to give me the chance to really try it out.
And then I’ll be dreaming of spring. New patterns are coming! (Some are already out for the Gym Girl Ultra.) I’ve also heard whispers of some new styles. And the 13er Virtual race is coming up soon (you get a skirt gift certificate with entry!)
OK, I need to stop. (Or maybe I need to shop.) Or something. Or maybe YOU need to shop: Code SSMCM20 will get you 20% off.
Don’t say I never gave you anything…

I love running skirts but I don’t think it gets cold enough for a skirt/tight combo. My butt does get cold sometimes though…so maybe I’m wrong.
Around here, layers are necessary in the winter and skirts over tights are a cute way to accomplish that.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE MY SKIRT SPORTS and do not mind the extra ankle warmth either 🙂
Warm ankles are a good thing!
Cute!! I have tried leggings with a skirt once and it didn’t work for me, but it could be because it wasn’t the right brand. I may have to try this!
As you know I love this skirt too! I love the shorter skirt and the warmness of the leggings. I too think it is flattering on many body types. I’ve been wearing this a ton this year as well and would love it if it came in other colors-maybe next year. Love that pic of us!
I don’t know if the skirt-leggings combo works for me, but you sure make me want to try!
I like it – hides the rear and keeps it warm.
Maybe this cold solve my cold butt issues when I run in the Winter here in Michigan! Never thought about putting a skirt over tights!
When it’s really cold, I wear tights with a Happy Girl skirt ’cause that puts 3 layers over my rear (where I’m coldest). I’m hoping the Ice Queen works for those really cold runs once I get the right size.
I won a Sports Skirt capris and I love them. I’m thinking about buying a pair when the new collection comes out.
The new patterns are super cute! I can’t wait to start buying them.
Im not a running skirt wearer 🙁 I tried but just couldnt do it. I think that they look great though. Fingers crossed you get more patterns to choose from. 🙂
I have no idea where running skirts came from, but I love them! Love this one too.
Cute! I like the idea of a running skirt, but I’ve never actually bought one! It’s too icy right now for running outside, so I’m building up my mileage at an indoor track so I could rock short cute one now. 🙂
cute review! I love running in skirts- hot or cold, I get more hot in Florida! I have several of the sports skirts and I recently tried a new sports bra from their line- LOVE IT! Can we ever have enough, nah!
I have never run in a skirt! But you make it so stylish and fun sounding that I may just have to shop for one!
Super cute! I didn’t know that they made a skirt/legging combo. Perfect for the colder weather!
I need a new skirt! I can’t imagine wearing one right now 🙂
*sigh* Now I DO have “Heat of the Moment” stuck in my head, lol. I always think of skirts as a summertime item; nice to know there are winter options available as well!
