Have you ever done a fartlek? Or a LSD? DNFed a race? Or basically DNS? Or maybe you got the honor of coming in DFL. (If that happens at Mainly Marathons, you get a caboose, so it’s not a bad thing.)
Don’t have a clue what I’m talking about? Well, then you need to read all the Tuesdays on the Run posts today because we are talking about Runner Slang. All of the above words are pretty commonly used by runners, but what other fun terms do you have?
Two of my favorites are BAMR (Bad Ass Mother Runner) and GBA (Galactically Bad Ass, coined by my friend Ginny). Why? Because so many of my runner friends truly are GBA. They juggle a billion responsibilities, yet they are still out there running crazy miles to train for fall marathons. And those that are managing to get their miles in during the current heatwave? Absolutely BAMR.
I know that there are tons of other cool slang words out there, but I’m old and tired, so you’ll have to help me out. What are your favorite current words?
And what would you call a skirt that doubles as a beer holder???

I remember being surprised when my mom knew what DFL was! Her response to my surprise: “We use that one in golf, too!”
That beer pocket is too funny! Not sure what you would call that but I like the idea and that skirt is super cute!
Beer pocket ftw! That is one pretty skirt and I kind of want a caboose.
Haha, that skirt pocket is definitely meant for carrying beer!
Love the beer holder! These words I’ve heard except for GBA. BAMR is a favorite too!
You have a beer holder skirt! BHS for short. Duh. That’s awesome!
Acronyms aren’t slang, really, but sometimes it feels like they are! Sometimes I have to stare & stare at one trying to make sense of it.
YMMV is one of my favorites, long before I was a runner (your mileage may vary) and there are endless permutations of that one, too.
I didn’t think about it but we really do have a ton of slang that we use as runners! Sometimes I forget everyone doesn’t know what PR means, lol!
I call it awesome. LOL
I LOVE GBA! Definitely something I need to work into my daily life. 🙂
Cute skirt, that pocket looks like it was made to hold a beer!
