Slow and steady

July 9, 2008 by MCM Mama 1 Comment

I did six miles on the treadmill today while Shoo napped. It was hot and humid and I was totally drenched when I got done, but it was a good run. I decided to go for negative splits again and, since I find treadmill running boring, I actually paid close attention to my speeds.

My miles
10
9:30
9:20
9:18
9:08
9:29

My average speed was about 9:27, which is a good pace for me. I would have liked to have done the last mile faster, but I was dying for some water and I’m not coordinated enough to run and drink at the same time when I’m on the treadmill.

I REALLY need to find some new shorts though. I run in “compression” shorts and the ones I own are the Champion 86% cotton ones. I end up completely soaked by the end of my run. I wore them for the half marathon and I was ok, but I’m afraid I’ll be really uncomfortable by the end of the marathon. I have heavy legs, so I have to have shorts that won’t ride up or I end up with major chafing (and I’ve tried the body glide stuff and it doesn’t work for me).

I gained three pounds while I was at my parents. I’ve managed to lose two already, just by getting back to my normal eating habits and running up and down our stairs the millions of times a day that I do. I never realized what a difference there is between a ranch style house and a colonial two story, especially since my laundry room, computer room, and pantry are in the basement. Yesterday I counted and I’d been up and down the two sets of stairs five times each by 7:00 am. No wonder I gain weight at my parents’!

Coffee with a side of rain

Apparently I only write coffee posts when I’m in Michigan. I guess my body is hard wired to wake up early, but the college kid has no interest in an early wakeup call. I’d run, but it’s raining and I did not bring the right running clothes, so here I sit. I’m joining Deb and […]
