We got lucky.
I woke up this morning to my cell phone ringing. It was Beer Geek’s work checking to see if he was teleworking or taking the day off. Why they needed to know at 6:48am, I’ll never understand.
But, more importantly, I woke to a warm house with power, two soundly sleeping children, and a live gecko. And I am more thankful than I can put into words.
Maybe we over prepared by moving to the basement.
Yes, us, the gecko, and the fish all slept in the basement.
Maybe the suitcase packed with two days worth of clothes for everyone was overkill.
Maybe the strategic parking of the cars was unnecessary.
We got lucky. We aren’t 100% out of the woods as it is still raining and a bit windy (and we have a couple of questionable trees), but things look much brighter this morning than they did 12 hours ago.
My heart breaks for those who did not fair as well with Sandy.
We over prepared a bit too – air mattress in the basement rather than our third floor bedroom… but opted for the bedroom halfway through the night because the dripping of water on the porch outside the window was like torture! We were lucky, only lost power for a bit, and it seems the worst is over here in NH – track party tuesday will go on as planned, rain, wind or shine!
Same here in Philly! The photos from the shore and NYC are unbelievable, though. I’m jealous your kids actually slept! We played musical chairs all night…
So glad you had a safe and warm night’s sleep:)
There is no such thing as over-prepared in a storm like that. Glad to hear you’re OK. 🙂
Good for you being prepared like that – so smart, and probably the reason you didn’t need to move. Glad you and yours are safe and sound….and warm.
Glad you and the family is safe!!
You can never be over-prepared. Never. And I bet your kids loved the camping out in the basement part.
it is always better to be over-prepared than under-prepared. We got lucky that the storm could have been a lot worse. That was one huge storm
It looks like it was a fun adventure for the kids – sleeping down in the basement. I’m so glad that you weren’t affected badly. It’s been a terrible storm.
I don’t think you can be too prepared in a storm like that! The pictures on the news are insane. Glad everyone is safe and sound at your place!
We strategically parked the cars too. I did the same thing at work yesterday. None of it was necessary which is wonderful.
Glad you made it through ok. Things up here in MA were a little crazy but we got lucky and didn’t lose power – so I’m grateful!
Basement with a packed bag for us too, but no damage. Hopefully if we ever have to do that again we’ll have finished part of the basement by then.
