I’ve been really trying to shake things up around here. I’m running pain free again, which generally means I drop all cross training and just get my run on. For once, I’m trying to be smart and not do that. I had a good run at the relay on Saturday and slow but pain free run on Sunday. So, Monday I hit up the elliptical at the gym. I’m going with the plan of no more than two runs in a row. Wonder how long I’ll manage to hold back…
Anyways, I was planning to run today, but when a friend offered me the chance to take one of his TNT Fitness classes, I went for it. (I’m a sucker for a FREE workout.)
To say that I might not be lifting my arms tomorrow may just be an understatement.
We started the class with some leg lift, toe touchy things (I’m sure that’s the real name for them) and then some plank to pushups, followed by lunges and squats. Then he announced “ok, we are done with the warmup, let’s get working.” Crap! I was already sweating and slightly out of breath. Next we did a circuit of two sets of 6 different exercises with things like bicep curls, more pushups, and shoulder shrugs. We had a short (couple of minutes?) break after that while he set up the next set of 6 circuits. Then we did two sets of 6 different exercises, including lat pulldowns and this squat kettle bell thing that made me wonder if I was going to drop the kettle bell on my head. When we first had the little break, I was kind of unhappy because it felt like too much of a break, but as soon as I started going again, I was happy we’d had it.
All in all, it was a pretty awesome full body workout in just 45 minutes. Sure, I could do this kind of workout at home, but I can guarantee you I used heavier weights and did more reps than I ever would have on my own.
In the DC area and want to check it out? Email me at mom2shoo at gmail.com and I’ll get you in touch with my friend.
Now I’m off to do laundry before I’m unable to use my arms…
(Disclaimer: The class was free (they offer a free week to anyone), but the opinions (and tired arms) are my own.)
seriously why do I think free workouts are such a great idea? I totally do and love them and then regret them…and then think dang I should cross train more 🙂
I’d like to see if you can hold back from the more than 2 times in a row running. I know I won’t!
Sounds like a tough workout. I always like trying something different. No matter how good a shape I think I am in, try something different and it kicks your booty!!
Sounds like a great workout and a fun time!
