Sport Suds Laundry Detergent Review

December 20, 2019 by MCM Mama 3 Comments

Laundry is one of my least favorite chores. And with 4 adult sized people in our house, it’s a chore I get to do way too often. I took a couple of days off recently and suddenly I was 6 loads behind. What??? So when my clothes don’t always come out smelling clean (or maybe it’s an absence of smelling dirty?), I get kind of cranky. Between Beer Geek and I and our workouts and two, umm, teen boys, there are some smelly loads heading into laundry. For an added bonus, I have an old front loader. You know, one of those that always has to be kept open so it doesn’t mildew.

Enter Sport Suds.

When I got the chance to try it, I was a bit hesitant. I fully confess that I do not separate our technical fabrics from our regular casual clothes. There is no time in my life for that kind of crazy. So the thought of having to do that to try the laundry detergent kind of put a damper on my excitement. (Spoiler: you can wash ALL of your clothes in Sport Suds.)

Sport Suds sponsored this review. All opinions are my own.

I ran a load of workout clothes combined with teen boy clothes and crossed my fingers. It came out without scent. Threw the boy clothes in the dryer and WHOOP! No stink. (Seriously, sometimes the dryer reactivates boy smell in some kind of crazy way.) When I wore my running clothes (that I always hang to dry), I did not notice any returning smell. Even better, my clothes did not smell like the fragrance from detergent!

What makes Sport Suds different?

Traditional detergents leave various things behind when they wash your clothes. Things like brighteners, softeners, fragrances and more, all of them designed to embed in the fabric for long-lasting effect. While this is ok (in terms of stink) for regular fabrics, it’s not good for high-tech athletic fabrics. Those additives get stuck in the fabric and hold in the stink and mess with some of the breathability of the fabric.

Sport Suds does not do that. Sport Suds rinses clean and even takes some of the other detergents’ gunk with it. The end result is that you are left with tech fabrics that don’t stink and perform the way that they are supposed to perform. Sport Suds contain no dyes or fillers, brighteners, softeners, fragrances or fabric protectors. And what they do have for cleaning rinses completely away.

Even better, Sport Suds offers a cleaner for your washer.  As the owner of an older front loading machine, I fight the “stinky machine” battle. I have to keep the door open at all times and it still needs regular clothes free loads to clean it. I’ve used various other options in the past and have either found that the don’t work or they leave a residue that has a scent I don’t like. Sport Suds machine cleaner left my washer clean and smell free.

In the past couple of weeks, I’ve used Sport Suds on a ridiculous number of loads of all different types of items from workout clothes that sat in the hamper for a few days to towels that my children left on the floor. I have yet to have a load come out that I needed to rewash or that smelled. I’m totally sold.

Just came back to comment that I ordered the small package when you first posted this. I’ve been so happy with it and am almost out so I ordered the largest size they have this morning. I wouldn’t have ordered the first time if not for your post (I’ve always been kind of skeptical of athletic laundry detergent and the higher price point).
