Short story: I finished and I finished faster than the first two!!!
Long story:
Wednesday we ran in Ulysses, Kansas on a 1.14 mile asphalt path through a golf course. From first arrival in Ulysses to the point where we left town, it was a great experience. The Chamber of Commerce hosted a pasta dinner for us at the Grant County Adobe Museum. The food was great and the museum was really interesting. Even better, one of the other runners brought me some beer from Amarillo!
The only negative of the race was the temperature. It was 25 degrees with a feels like of 19 when we got to the course in the morning. I had on almost half the clothes in my suitcase. Seriously. I wore: a winter hat, a short sleeve shirt, arm warmers, a long sleeve half zip, my windbreaker, a Happy Girl skirt, heavy Lululemon tights, compression socks, and two pairs of gloves.
I was still cold when we started and didn’t warm up until 3 miles in. And just when I started considering removing layers, teh wind picked up, so I kept everything on and never over heated. BRRR!
Apparently the cold was good for me though as I pulled at least 8! sub 11 minute miles. In fact, I only had one mile that started with 13 and that was the mile where I called Beer Geek to let him know I was finishing faster than expected.
This was not a PR race, but it was an amazingly fast race, considering it was my third half marathon in 3 days! And I felt awesome the whole time. With each mile, I kept thinking “ok, finish this mile with a 10 and then you can slow down”, but I didn’t slow down. My slowest miles involved a few snacks at the aid station, rather than actual slow running. ;o) I have no idea where the energy came from and I’m sure I’ll slow down tomorrow, but it was a great race and I finished in about 2:29. Woot!
After the race, I was disappointed to discover we only had a shower in the hotel, so I didn’t get my soak. I ended up riding from KS to CO with my feet high up on the dashboard instead. We did a little side trip to the site of the Sand Creek Massacre, where Beer Geek made me walk (AKA limp) up a hill. Thankfully, due to an issue with our hotel, we ended up at a lovely B&B with a hot tub. Awesome!
More than halfway there! Only 2 left (and I’ll crawl on Friday if I have to…)
Way to Go!
Cheering you on from the state next to CO! You are doing awesome!

Did you just loop around the 1 mile + path on the golf course or did it go farther?
Way to go! Good luck on the next one! 🙂

I can’t believe he made you walk up a hill. So very mean. 🙂 Running when it’s cold like that is rough. Good for you for being so awesome!
