Yesterday turned out to be a glorious spring day. It started off rainy (and I started off whiny), but then the sun came out an it actually got warm. So warm, in fact, that I was overdressed for my run and I opened the windows when I got home. Today it is 44* and rainy (Yay for that outdoor field trip to Mount Vernon!). Tomorrow at the start line for 17.75 it will be a "feels like" of 25*. Seriously, Mother Nature, get back on your meds. So, I'm having a hard time coming up with 5 spring foods I'd like to eat, as I'm still in comfort food mode from the weather and eat.all.the.things mode from all the running. Speaking of running, did I mention that I successfully completed 20 and 12 back to back? I ran out of time for the last 3 miles … [Read more...]

How marriage is like fitness
20 year ago, I made a decision that changed my life path: I made a random stop by the fraternity house where many of my college friends had belonged. I had heard a rumor that some alums were there hanging out for the evening. Beer Geek was one of those alums. 1 year later, I married him. 19 years of marriage later, I know I made the right decision. In many ways, keeping a healthy marriage is much like keeping a healthy lifestyle. So, here are 5 tips for maintaining a healthy marriage as well as a healthy lifestyle. 1. Don't compare. Your marriage, just like your fitness, is yours alone. Don't compare other couples public behavior to your day to day marriage. Same thing with running - you don't know where they … [Read more...]
16 years and counting!!!
16 years ago, I married my best friend. 16 years later, he's still my favorite person to drink a beer with. We have a lovely relationship where he drags me places for weird geographical stuff and I drag him places so I can race. Along the way, we drink at every brewpub and brewery that we can manage to visit. (Yes, my kids have been on enough brewery tours to GIVE a brewery tour LOL!) 16 years (17 years since our first date on Friday the 13th) later, you're still the one! In totally unrelated administrative news: I nearly went batshit crazy without blogger the last two days. Apologies to all my Facebook and Twitter friends. I also didn't have access to my treadmill and Beer Geek was out of town. Yeah, it wasn't pretty up … [Read more...]
Thirteen Things Thursday: The Beer Geek Edition
15 years ago today, I married my best friend. Even after all this time, he's still the first person I want to tell about my day and my favorite person to drink a beer with. So, here are 13 random things about him/us and some pictures taken over our years together. (I apologize for the quality of some of the pics. Maybe in the next 15 years, he'll teach me how to use the scanner). We'd never have gotten together if there had been enough seats on the couch that evening. I may be laid back, but even I won't sit on the floor of a fraternity house. Good thing there was a lap available. ;o) Beer Geek proposed to me late one night as we were walking back from a 7-11. The conversation went something like this: Beer Geek: "So, are you … [Read more...]
Mostly Wordless Wednesday: 14 years!
15 years ago, Beer Geek and I went out on our first "date" (if you can all it a date since we went out drinking with our usual drinking companions LOL) 14 years ago, we had lovely wedding in Nebraska, followed by a huge reception in July in Virginia, and a wonderful honeymoon in August in Alaska. I highly recommend an entire summer of "wedding". LOL (Apologies for the poor picture quality. Beer Geek has an awesome scanner, but I don't even know how to turn it on, so I took pictures of our pictures.) Engagement picture - don't we look young? The only professional picture from the wedding The wedding in Nebraska Here we are "today" (it's a year or so old, but it's the most current picture I could find of just the two of … [Read more...]
