2020 has been a year of major ups and downs. In some ways, it's been the hardest year of my life, but there have been some really amazing things as well. Beer Geek and I got to go on vacation in Bermuda before the world shut down and we celebrated 25 years of marriage. Jones graduated high school and got a major scholarship to college. Shoo finished middle school and is actually doing surprisingly well with online high school. So, when I struggle to not slide into darkness, I have to remind myself that not everything sucks. If we were having coffee, I'd tell you that I continue to struggle with running. It's not the actual running that's a problem - it's the motivation to do it. Once I'm out there, running itself is usually fine. … [Read more...]
Runfessions from the winter that wasn’t
Here we are at the end of February and I'm whining about being cold, but it's currently 33* and the high is supposed to be in the high 40s. While that's right around the "average" high and low for February in this area, it feels like we've had a lot more of the average and a lot less of the cold days than usual. And we've had zero snow. ZERO! It really feels like winter never arrived this year. So, my first runfession as I enter the runfessional at Marcia's Healthy Slice is that I'd really like at least one snow before the warm weather hits us! I must also runfess that there's been precious little running around here. The worst part is I can't find my "give a damn." I know I have some half marathons coming up (eh, they aren't until … [Read more...]
My Big Scary Goal for 2018
2018 is here and I still feel like much of my life is in flux. While I am not a Type A personality, I do like to have my life somewhat planned and be in control of the things around me. That doesn't seem to be how life is going to work for now, so my big scary goal relates to that. My big scary goal for the year: Take each day as it comes. Roll with the punches and keep on moving forward with a smile on my face. I do, of course, have a loose framework for our year, but I usually like to set SMART goals and I'm going for a much more relaxed plan this year. Running Continue running injury free. That's it. I'm sure I'll run a few half marathons and I still plan to run MCM again this year, but I need to get back to the joy of … [Read more...]
Top 5 posts from 2017
This week has been a crazy week. Having Christmas fall on a Monday means that the stores and post office have been swamped this week. This is normally my week to get everything done before people who have less flexible schedules are out of work. It's been totally crazy with the lines! Thankfully, other than wrapping the gifts, I only have to hit the grocery store for a few things. Hopefully that means bedtime before 1am for the first time in a week. Every year, I like to look back and see what posts were popular. There's always at least one that makes me go "hmmm..." This year does not break that mold. So, without further ado, here are the posts that hit it out of the park this year. Marine Corps Marathon 2017 Race Recap Yep, my … [Read more...]
Friday Five with T-Mobile Simply Prepaid™ #changingprepaid
This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #ChangingPrepaid #CollectiveBias We've been shaking things up around here - getting rid of cable, turning off the landline, exploring new cell phone options. With suddenly needing at least two more phones (a teenager + a house phone) plus my phone being on its last legs, I've been tearing my hair out trying to figure out the most economical solution for cell phone service. One of the options I've been considering is a prepaid plan, including the Simply Prepaid by T-Mobile. I'm cheap, but you all know my phone is my lifeline, so it needs to be a good plan. I'm constantly working from orchestra practice or soccer games. And by … [Read more...]
5 years? Really?
Apparently I started this blog about 5 years ago! The exact date is lost as a few of my early posts did not transfer when I moved from blogger to self-hosted. Things have changed a lot in my life since then. When I started, I'd never run more than 10 miles and I was training for a marathon. Now I've run two marathons and 15 half marathons, as well as a bunch of 10 milers and any number of shorter races. Jones was in Kindergarten and Shoo wasn't even in preschool. Now Jones is graduating from 5th grade in a few short weeks! I used to be "fast". Not any more. I've made a ton of online friends, several of whom I have since run with and a few who have moved beyond just "blog friends". I didn't even have the 50 state goal and … [Read more...]
