You may have noticed a bright yellow jacket in many of my race pictures over the last two years. My Brooks Nightlife Essential Run Jacket is perhaps my most frequently used piece of running gear. I first encountered this jacket when my mom lent me hers at the last minute for the trip to the Dust Bowl Series. I was not planning to take a jacket, but the weather predictions indicated cooler weather than I was expecting, plus, umm, the Dust Bowl was named because of the huge windy dust storms in the 30s. So, yeah, cool to cold and windy. … [Read more...]
What I’m loving right now…
Ok, first and foremost the fact that the election is over. For the first time in MONTHS, my phone isn't ringing constantly. The silence is beautiful. (Seriously, living in a swing state and having both parties think you might vote for them = near constant calls. Some small part of me wanted to vote for the party that called me fewer times. ) No, what I'm really loving these days is the "halfzip". This might possibly be the best invention EVER! From late October until sometime in April, 90% of my runs will involve one of my halfzip tops. I am not a runner who feels the need to wear shorts and short sleeves once the temps drop. I just don't get that hot when I'm running (especially right now when most of my miles are run at an … [Read more...]
Brooks Cavalcade of Curiosities
Last week, Melody of Will Run for Margaritas put out a call on facebook looking for volunteers to work at Brooks Cavalcade of Curiosities. Since I wanted to go over to the expo anyways, I offered to help. Since I have kids in school, I ended up working Thursday and Friday during the day. While helping out at the expo was awesome, the chance to see both Melody and Miss Zippy was even better. I was assigned to the giveaway booth both days. We scanned tickets that each person brought in and gave them either a bandana, a beanie or a t-shirt. Every once in a while someone won a new pair of Brooks shoes! (When that happened, I think the volunteers were as excited as the winner LOL.) A few times over the two days, people won head to toe … [Read more...]
Three Things Thursday: Tough Chik, Brooks Expo, half marathon training
1. A while back, I joined "Team Tough Chik". It has turned out to be a wonderfully supportive group of women that I'm really enjoying being part of. And now I can dress the part. My team "kit" came yesterday. I'm really really excited to race in it. 2. Today and Friday I will be spending my mornings/early afternoons at the Brooks exhibit at the RNR DC expo. I'm really looking forward to spending the time there and hope to have some time afterwards to do a bit of shopping. Getting to spend a day hanging out with other runners? Why, yes, that does sound like a good idea. Thank you, Melody, for passing my name on to the coordinators. 3. My half marathon training for the Blue Ridge half marathon is going surprisingly well, … [Read more...]

Just call me Cinderella
Wait, that was many feet, one pair of shoes. So, maybe Goldilocks. But that only took her three tries. Crap, I'm not up on my fairy tales. What can I say, I'm the mom of two boys - all I hear about are legos and ninjas LOL. But, seriously, I do feel like I'm on a quest for the perfect shoe and I can't quite find the right one. I love all of them, but each and every pair comes with a drawback. Here's what's currently in rotation: Mizuno Wave Riders Newton Gravitas Brooks Pure Connect Merrell Pace Glove Vibram Five Fingers My feet After running in vibrams the other day and barefoot on the treadmill for my speedwork, I'm pretty sure that my other shoes have become too small. Become too small, you … [Read more...]
