Madison, Wisconsin is one of my absolute favorite places to run, especially in the summer. It’s a small laid back city with a lot of sights to see. It is also a very fitness friendly town with trails of all types and distances available to the runner and the biker. Add in the lovely weather in the summer and you have a great destination for a runner. It's also where Beer Geek and I plan to retire to eventually. It took me a long time to convince him (umm, close to 20 years...), but he's on board with living there from spring through fall and traveling the rest of the year. Sounds like a great retirement plan to me. 6 more years to go... Here are some of my favorite places to run: Mendota Lakeshore Path - This is one of … [Read more...]
DC Races, You’re All My Favorites!
When it comes to racing, I'm a lucky girl. I live practically in the Nation's Capital. (And if you were to ask Beer Geek, he'd tell you that where we live used to be part of DC, but they gave it back to Virginia...) But I digress. There are so many awesome DC races and tons just out of the city. In fact, within in an hour's drive (ok, at 6am on a Saturday, not rush hour), there are races of pretty much any type, distance, or atmosphere that I could want. Admittedly, not all of them are awesome (like the one that's hot and hilly every year or the one I refer to as my bad boyfriend because I keep going back even when I don't want to or the one that was such a traffic nightmare that a lot of runners didn't make it to the start line...) All of … [Read more...]
One ‘n’ Done? Or Serial Racer?
So many races, so little time and money. If I could, I'd race all.the.time. Oh wait, I kind of do... I'm also really really tired - ran New Hampshire today and then drove all over Vermont with visits to Harpoon Brewing, Rock Art Brewing, and Ben and Jerry's. Today's topic for Tuesdays on the Run is whether you only do a race once or if you go back to the same ones over and over again. Personally, I have kind of a split personality. I have a small number of races that I like to race each year: ZOOMA, Frederick Half Marathon, 17.75K, and Marine Corps Marathon. There are also a few that I tend to run somewhat regularly if they align with my schedule: RNR DC, Army 10 Miler, Historic Half. Other than those few though, I try to run all … [Read more...]
5 things I love about the Frederick Running Festival
This weekend I am running half marathon #10 for 2014! Only 3 more to go after this. This race was supposed to be my "A" race for the spring. I had big hopes of pushing for a sub-2:10. While I haven't ruled it out, I'm thinking it's not likely. Why? Because Mother Nature has decided to go straight from soup weather to hot weather. And I don't deal well with the heat at the beginning of the summer. So, I guess I'll make a game day decisions as to how to handle the race. So, in keeping with Mar, Courtney, and Cynthia's theme: 5 Things I Love about the Frederick Running Festival 1. The location - Frederick is only about an hour from where I live in Virginia, so it's super easy to get to. I love that it's close and accessible, … [Read more...]
