Today Beer Geek and I were discussing the Jack Daniels race that Missy mentioned on my last post. I was telling him about the race and mentioned it was a new race, so there were no reviews and I had no way of knowing how well it would be organized. He rolled his eyes and said "It's just 13 miles. You can deal with it." Umm, ok, then. I apparently live in a warped little world where a 13 mile run is no big deal.* Week 1 of marathon training is in the books. I ran one speed workout, one easy workout, one "marathon pace" run that I think was about a 9:30 pace (Garmin went all bracelet on me), and today I ran my first long run - 10 miles. Goals for 2009
I don't have my 2008 goals on the blog, as I didn't start blogging until May, but I wrote some on my livejournal account. I wanted to run a half marathon and a marathon. I don't think I realized at the time what I was getting in to, but I did accomplish both. So for 2009, I want to: 1) Run at least three half marathons, with the eventual goal of a sub-2 hour half. The sub-2 might not happen this year, but it won't be for lack of trying. I've already signed up for the Citizens Bank Caesar Rodney Half Marathon-2009 in Wilmington, DE. I'll do a local one for the second (not sure which one yet) and then hopefully find one we can travel to in the fall for the third. 2) Run races in at least three new states (but I'm aiming for 5). … [Read more...]
Zooma Half Marathon Race Report (Half Marathon#1)
The short story: I finished with a time of about 2 hours and 20 minutes. Not the time I was hoping for, but a respectable time nonetheless. The course was hilly and boring and the weather was warm and humid. I'm just happy it's over. The long story: On Saturday, we drove to Delaware and took the boys to the beach. The weather was hot and sunny, perfect beach weather. Not so much perfect "day before a race weather". After the beach, we stopped at a brewery and took their tour and got some cases of beer. At that point, Jones, Shoo, and Beer Geek were all happy guys. We headed back to Annapolis, had dinner and took the boys swimming at the hotel pool. We all retired early to prepare for the next day.
