I woke up this morning in a crappy mood. Some of it was hormonal. A lot of it was just a lot of little stresses weighing me down. Nothing major, just general life annoyances plus the added stress of Christmas. I didn't want to run. I ran 25 miles over the last three days (yes, I did add mileage yesterday to make it a nice round number). I also did an hour long yoga class that had an emphasis on legs. So, my legs were tired and I was crabby. Sounded like a perfect recipe for a rest day. And chocolate. Lots of chocolate. However, I had made plans to run with a friend and she showed up at my door before I could come up with a good excuse not to. So, I took my sorry butt out the door and started running. And, guess what? … [Read more...]
Happy birthday to the #1 reason I run
11 years ago, my life changed in ways I never knew were possible. Jones' entry into our lives was a much anticipated and wanted event, but Jones didn't come alone. He brought along some baggage in the form of sleepless nights, breastfeeding difficulties, food allergies, and postpartum depression. It was a beautiful autumn, at least as far as the pictures show. But for me, it was dark. I remember it as a constantly grey time. I spent a lot of time sitting on the couch, crying. I couldn't see past the exhaustion and incredible neediness that came along with this wonderful addition to our family. Enter running. One slow mile showed me an inkling of light. Round 1 done
Running and blogging have had to take a bit of a back seat this past week. I've been a little busy with other endeavors. Jones turned 8 today and I got to spend the better part of yesterday creating this masterpiece: In case you can't tell, those are lightsabers from Star Wars. I'm neither a good baker nor particularly artistic, but twice a year, I get to create a masterpiece. Thankfully, while their ideas are grandiose, the boys have fairly low standards for the actual execution LOL. Today may have been Jones' best birthday party ever, at least from my perspective. We held it at a local bowling alley and it included bowling, pizza, and all set up/clean up, so all I had to do was show up with a cake. Awesome! In running news, I … [Read more...]
Not so wordless Wednesday: Jones
Two years ago, Jones started playing soccer. I bought his uniform HUGE, assuming he'd wear it for a few years and pass it down to Shoo. Even though he spent most of his first season running way behind the pack, he's become quite the soccer player and the uniform has seen a lot of use. Here he is in the first season (notice the length of the shirt and shorts, as well as the fact that his shin guards cover his entire shins) Here he is last spring (notice the uniform fits him...) Today, I sent him to the first practice of the season in shorts that would have made a Dallas cheerleader proud, shin guards that only came halfway up his calves, and shoes that made his feet hurt. (No, he wouldn't let me take a picture). … [Read more...]
