Today's topic for Tuesdays on the Run with Marcia and Patty is "Mother's Day". I became a runner when I became a mom, so the two are closely linked together in my mind. This post is a continuation of a last year's post... you've ever checked a breast pump at gear check at a race. you paid more for your running stroller than your first car. you've ever picked up a kid from school in sweaty running clothes. you've ever had to run back to your car before you could pick up a sick kid from school. you get excited when your kids get bigger than you because every sweatshirt they outgrow is a potential race throwaway. you make your child get all of his service hours for middle school by volunteering at races. you've ever … [Read more...]
An amazing weekend and 15 minutes of fame
Some weekends you have incredible plans and go out and do adventurous things. Some weekends you take it easy and just enjoy the life you have. This weekend was one of the latter types, but it was still an amazing weekend for me. Friday night we stayed in and took it easy. We also finished the remaining beer from Ragnar Trail Richmond. You just might be a Mother Runner if (with a nod to Jeff Foxworthy)... you go days without a shower because you just know you're going to get that run in soon. you've ever ran in circles around the cul de sac because your kids are asleep in the house. you've ever paid for someone to watch your children while you go for a run. you think it's perfectly acceptable to wear running clothes to bed so you can sneak out for a run in the morning. you paid more for your running stroller than for your first car. you have a "no screens" or "no sugar" policy in your house, … [Read more...]
5 Gifts for the Mother Runner in your Life
Looking for the perfect gift for the Mother Runner in your life? I'm a huge fan of experiences over things (despite my obvious addiction to Skirt Sports LOL), so here's what I'd love to receive. A race entry - Spring is race season. Give that special mom in your life a race entry of her favorite distance. Bonus points if you handle the kids before the race and meet her afterwards and take her to brunch. A night in a hotel - by herself - the night before a race. Do I even need to explain this one??? A day at a spa- After a long race or a long training season, or heck even a long night with a crabby kid, every mom needs a little me time and what better way to get it than in a place that pampers you?? A training program - If … [Read more...]
