Apparently I only write coffee posts when I'm in Michigan. I guess my body is hard wired to wake up early, but the college kid has no interest in an early wakeup call. I'd run, but it's raining and I did not bring the right running clothes, so here I sit. I'm joining Deb and Coco for another coffee kick off. I'm actually hoping to join one or both for in person coffee soon now that outdoor weather is returning to the area. If we were having coffee, I'd tell you that I had the most AMAZING experience volunteering at the Boston Marathon. I've known for a long time that I will never qualify to run, so I set my sights on getting a chance to volunteer. It was everything I hoped for and more, from running into Brian Beckstead (one of the … [Read more...]
Hotel Coffee is better than no coffee…
Brrr! March came in like a lamb in Virginia with some warm weather, but I'm up in Michigan getting the kid for spring break and it's definitely not warm here. I'm currently sitting in my hotel room waiting for classes to be over so we can head home, so I figured I'd join Deb and Coco for some coffee talk. If we were having coffee, I'd tell you that I flew for the third time since early 2020 yesterday. My first trip was to Cape Cod to put on the ZOOMA race. Yesterday's trip went so much better! Everything was on time and all the details went super smooth. I'm really hoping that this means airlines are getting their feet back under them. If we were having coffee, I'd tell you that I made a tactical error choosing my hotel for last … [Read more...]
5 Things to Love about Four Courts Four Miler
This week has pretty much chewed me up and spit me out. I'm so glad to have actually survived until Friday, mostly with my sanity intact. It was one of those weeks where we were all going in too many different directions. It was one of those weeks where my runs did not follow my plan at all. I was running purely for stress relief or, as I said on Facebook, running was my version of "put your oxygen mask on first before helping others." On the bright side, we've survived the week and Beer Geek and I have a race tomorrow. If you are local, you should join us. Guinness after the race - I'm not going to lie - it's a great race but the absolute highpoint of running it is a Guinness at 10am. Wicked fast downhill start - Nevermind that … [Read more...]
St. Pat’s 10K and GW Parkway Training Recap
A couple of weeks ago, I won a race entry from a local race company (Pacers Events) with this Instagram photo. The win netted me entry into either the St.Pat's races or the Four Courts Four Miler. Since Beer Geek and I were already running the Four Miler, I chose the St. Pat's 10K. (And then I convinced Beer Geek and a friend that they needed to run it too.) Since I've been training to run the GW Parkway Classic 10 miler at a sub 10 pace, I decided that would be my goal for the 10K. Sunday morning dawned cold and clear. 22* cold to be exact. After a winter without a winter, this was a bit of a shock to the system. I had planned to wear my Ragnar Ambassador 1/4 zip, but it was not very warm, so I had to get creative. … [Read more...]
Best DC Area Race: GW Parkway Classic
I swear, asking someone who lives in the DC metro area which race is their favorite is like asking a mom which child she likes best. We have some of the most amazing races in the country here: Marine Corps Marathon, Army 10 Miler, Navy Air Force half marathon, RNR DC, GW Parkway Classic 10 Miler, Woodrow Wilson Half Marathon... Expand your horizons a bit and you can run the Frederick Half Marathon, ZOOMA Annapolis, the Historic Half, the Fall Backyard Burn trail races, the Loudoun Half Marathon, the Reston 10 Miler... And that's not even touching the smaller races in the area. Seriously I could race every weekend. And I have run many of the local races, but not all of them. It's so hard to choose just one. But somehow, for today's … [Read more...]
2013 is looking kind of epic
And, no, I don't mean my son's gecko. (Yes, his name is Epic.) You already know about my crazy five marathons in five days. (And if you don't, you've obviously never been here before...) Wanna know what I did yesterday? I walked around Washington Harbour. Why is this a big deal? I was working with the group who is planning the Nike Women's Marathon Half Expotique. That's right. I'm on the Pacers Race Management team that will be running the packet pickup. Yes, this does mean I'll practically live at the Harbour for the race weekend. No, I don't know any secrets nor do I have any free entries. (I'm not in any way involved with the registration or any of the big decisions. ) My role is to make sure that all the runners get … [Read more...]
Pacers Mini Relay + Ambassador party
This was a busy weekend for us. Shoo was supposed to have a soccer game (thankfully canceled due to wet fields.) My dishwasher was being delivered (it's in my living room now. Baby steps, people.) The boys were testing for belts at martial arts and I had a relay to run. And that was just Saturday! Jones and Shoo rocked their tests and I got an amazing picture of Jones earning his white belt... After their test, Beer Geek dropped me at the Pacers store in Old Town Alexandria. My leg was to run from there to their Pentagon Row store. Sadly, I didn't take a picture of myself, but I did get my "Find your strong" tattoo from Saucony. My leg turned out to be pretty good. It was a slow start due to people and traffic lights (and … [Read more...]
