Hiking in St. George’s Bermuda

Hiking in St. George’s Bermuda

I wrote this post when we got to Bermuda and then got too busy to finish it. I'll post about the race weekend next, but suffice it to say that the trip was amazing! Bermuda is gorgeous! Our trip here was a little rough - 3 airplane changes in Miami, 5 gate changes (from one end of the terminal and back several times), and an overnight in a hotel (if by overnight you mean from 11pm-3:00 am).  If you've been reading my blog for a while, you know that you should probably never travel internationally with me. Anyways, we finally made it here on Wednesday morning and spent the day walking around the town of St. George's and the forts near the town. It was about 4 miles of hilly walking, so I didn't feel any guilt about not getting in a … [Read more...]

Running on vacation is my favorite!

Running on vacation is my favorite!

I guess you can tell from the title where I stand on today's Tuesdays on the Run topic of whether or not t0 run on vacation. I can't think of a vacation in the last 10 years that hasn't had at least one run - and most have more than one and at least one race.  In fact, there was a time period not to long ago where even our family vacations revolved around whether I could find a race or not. That has become less of a priority, but I still try to get in a few runs on every vacation. How do I always manage to run on vacation? I pack for as many weather possibilities as I can - I always throw in compression socks and arm sleeves. These added layers can make it possible to run in unexpectedly cold weather, without taking up a lot of … [Read more...]

Tips for a successful road trip racecation

Tips for a successful road trip racecation

You all know I love to travel to races. And Beer Geek just loves to travel. Period. We are also fans of driving trips. I grew up driving across America - my dad was in the military and we drove between stations plus did a lot of driving family vacations. In fact, I did not fly for the first time until high school. These days we fly more often, but even when we fly someplace, we tend to do long trips while there. (Our summer vacation involves flying to Denver, but we'll then be driving to Chaco Canyon, Four Corners, Angel Fire, Santa Fe, and Durango.) So you know that a road trip racecation is something I'm going to do. In fact, I've driven as far south as the Florida panhandle and as far west as St. Louis, just for one race. We've also … [Read more...]

Budgeting Tips for a Racecation

Budgeting Tips for a Racecation

I'm pretty sure that "racecation" is my middle name. Beginning with my first half marathon at ZOOMA, where we took the boys and did a brewery tour and played at the beach before spending the night in a hotel in Annapolis, I've loved traveling for races. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of great races within an easy morning drive. I just love to combine travel AND races (and beer if I were being completely honest.) With all the traveling and racing (and beer drinking, ahem), I've learned a few things about how to budget for them. So, I've got a lot to say about today's Tuesday on the Run topic! Plan early - race prices go up the closer you get. Sometimes hotels sell out or flight options get limited. If you KNOW you are going, … [Read more...]
