Thank you DuClaw Brewing for sponsoring this post and sending me the DuClaw Enjoy Your Time Away. All opinions and the mussels recipe are my own. Welcome to the February edition of “Cooking with Beer”! Each month DuClaw Brewing sends me a beer and a friend and I create a recipe. It's a fun time to think outside the box and try a new beer and new food. This month's beer is "Enjoy Your Time Away", a smooth IPA with a nice blend of hops. I'm not a hop head. I like my beers dark and sweet. But I approach every beer with an open mind and a willingness to be surprised. Unfortunately though, it's hard to cook with a straight up IPA. You have to be careful not to reduce it and bring out the bitter. Faced with that challenge, my … [Read more...]
DuClaw Q Dry Rubbed Pale Ale Potato Chips
Thank you DuClaw Brewing for sponsoring this post and sending me the DuClaw Q Dry Rubbed Pale Ale. All opinions and the wing recipe are my own. Welcome to the May edition of “Cooking with Beer”! Thank you DuClaw Brewing for sponsoring this post and sending me the DuClaw Morgazm. All opinions and the wing recipe are my own. Welcome to the April edition of “Cooking with Beer”! Each month DuClaw Brewing sends me a beer and a friend and I create a recipe. It’s a fun time to think outside the box and try a new beer and new food. This month’s beer is “Morgazm”, a grapefruit zested blonde ale that is a citrusy twist on their Bare Ass Blonde Ale. With only 5% ABV and a light refreshing flavor, Morgazm is a perfect beer for a hot summer day. Each month when I get my beer from DuClaw, my friend and I brainstorm ideas for the recipe. I'd had this beer before, so I knew the flavor profile, but I was at a loss as to what might make … [Read more...]
My “go to” breakfast – crustless quiche
I was recently discussing breakfast with another "Team Tough Chik" runner. I'm kind of boring I have two go to breakfasts. If I'm running more than 6 miles before lunch, I eat a peanut butter and jelly sandwich on whole wheat bread. This seems to be the perfect carb + protein combo for me and has never (*knock wood*) upset my stomach on a run. If I'm not running, I eat a piece of crustless quiche. I promised Elizabeth of See Lizzie Tri that I would post the recipe of the quiche. (I'm pretty sure you all know how to make a PB&J LOL) I use whatever veggies I have in the fridge, as well as whatever cheese. The best combination for me includes some sort of green (spinach, kale, arugula, etc), mushrooms, pepper, onion and … [Read more...]
