Dressing for function and fashion

Dressing for function and fashion

Today on Tuesdays on the Run, our topic is running gear and where to get it. You all know my love for Skirt Sports and it's pretty obvious that most of my running dollars get spent directly on their site. (Don't forget you can get 20% off with code MCM20.) I did, however, share with you  how you can get older prints (yes, I do still have a few prints that I'm hoping to get my hands on.) I also generally get my shoes directly through my relationship with Altra, with the occasional extra pair being bought at Road Runner Sports as they are my only local store that carries them. So, where do I get the rest of my stuff??? Target, Kohl's, and Old Navy. That's right. I'm pretty much addicted to the Target C9 half zips. I'm … [Read more...]

Looking for vintage Skirt Sports?

Looking for vintage Skirt Sports?

Thank you to Groupon Coupon for sponsoring this post. You all know I love my skirts from Skirt Sports. I pretty much wear something from them every single day at some point (some days I wear multiple things, some days I spend my entire day in Skirt Sports.) Since I became an ambassador, I've pretty much bought all the new patterns. Yes, it's an addiction. No, I don't buy any other clothes. (This might explain why I had such a hard time finding clothes for the White House, ahem.)   Anyways, sometimes though, I miss an item I really want (or didn't realize that I really wanted) and it's gone from their site before I can get it. Usually it's because I'm not sure how an item will fit and by the time I figure it out, all of … [Read more...]

To shirt or not to shirt

To shirt or not to shirt

Wear the race shirt that is... Today on Tuesdays on the Run, we are discussing that hugely controversial topic: Should you run a race in the shirt you get at a race? I know, we take on the serious topics around here. Personally, I don't care what other runners do. If you want to wear the race shirt, knock yourself out. But, I've already confessed to not liking race shirts. I made some into a quilt and I give Jones the cotton ones to wear, but I still have a huge stack of brand new race technical shirts. So, maybe you should take my not wearing race shirts with a grain of salt. Many race shirts are cotton. No, just no. Don't race in cotton. Even if it's a tech tee and it's a brand I've worn before, it could still chafe. … [Read more...]

Do you have a “running uniform”?

February 29, 2016 by MCM Mama 43 Comments

Do you have a “running uniform”?

Whether you are a runner who grabs a pair of shorts and a tech t-shirt for a race or a running fashionista, you likely have a go to set of running clothes that you wear whenever it's clean (or maybe even when it's not. I've never pulled dirty clothes out of the hamper to run. Ahem.)  Tell us about that outfit. Is it the exact same pair of shorts or do you have several in different colors? Is there a tank or shirt that's your go to top that never chafes and makes you feel good? What about your shoes? Do they match or are they equipment not fashion? The evolution of my (warm weather) running uniform... When I first started running, I wore compression shorts and whatever race shirt I got my hands on. My shoes were whatever neutral shoe felt … [Read more...]

Win Detergent Review

Win Detergent Review

I'm cheap.  I admit it.  I'm the queen of finding things on sale and often will do without if I think something is too pricey.  (OK, I admit there are exceptions: beer and races. But the above holds true for anything from running clothes to household items to groceries.) I made an exception to that rule this week.  I bought a bottle of Win detergent for full price on amazon. Why?  Because I was pretty sure my pink running jacket was going to get up and run away on its own if I didn't wash it with a sports detergent soon. I've used Win before and knew I liked the smell.  (I can't stand detergents with overpowering smells. All of my normal detergents are unscented.) I also knew that it makes a huge difference in the smell … [Read more...]

Athleta Relay Capri and Luscious Half Zip Review

Athleta Relay Capri and Luscious Half Zip Review

I really wanted to call this post "It's Friday I'm in Love", but I figured that would reveal just a little too clearly how old I am LOL. I'm super excited to tell you about the Athleta Relay capri and the Athleta Luscious Half Zip. I'm a huge fan of Athleta.  I love their clothes and I love that they support Girls on the Run.  I've found that while their prices are high, the quality is worth it.  I bought swimsuits from Athleta for cub scout camp this summer and love that they are both modest and comfortable in addition to performing well.  I live in their Whatever skirt in the summer and I recently wore their Strata skirt on New Year's Eve, which was like wearing my pajamas and looking good at the same time.  In fact, I think of Athleta … [Read more...]

What I’m loving right now…

What I’m loving right now…

Ok, first and foremost the fact that the election is over.  For the first time in MONTHS, my phone isn't ringing constantly.  The silence is beautiful.  (Seriously, living in a swing state and having both parties think you might vote for them = near constant calls.  Some small part of me wanted to vote for the party that called me fewer times.  ) No, what I'm really loving these days is the "halfzip". This might possibly be the best invention EVER!  From late October until sometime in April, 90% of my runs will involve one of my halfzip tops.  I am not a runner who feels the need to wear shorts and short sleeves once the temps drop.  I just don't get that hot when I'm running (especially right now when most of my miles are run at an … [Read more...]

I am SO over summer (even though I’ve found more shorts)

August 19, 2009 by MCM Mama 10 Comments

Today was another hot and humid day here in the south. When the boys and I met up with friends for a walk to the playground at 8:30am this morning, it was already uncomfortable. We walked to the playground, hung out there for a while, walked to Whole Foods and Barnes and Noble (Jones has been reading Harry Potter, so I promised him the second movie) and then walked home. It was a total of 2.5 miles of walking and by the time we got home it was over 90 degrees. Needless to say, we didn't do much else outside today. I'm having a really hard time hitting 20 miles each week since August started. First, we were on vacation for a week. Then we got home and got hit with ridiculously hot weather. Now, both boys are home (no camps) and it's hot … [Read more...]

Fab Four for Reese

April 24, 2009 by MCM Mama 16 Comments

I ran my four miles for Reese's Run (there's still time to sign up!) today because I won't run tomorrow or Saturday in preparation for the GW Parkway 10 miler on Sunday.  I planned to take it really slow and easy, but apparently I suck at pacing myself.  The first mile was 9:05.  A little fast, but mostly downhill.  About a third of the way through the second mile, I was really regretting it, thinking I'd gone out way too fast.  Then I looked down at Garmin.  I was running uphill, into the wind, at an 8:50 pace.  Oops.  No wonder I was dying!   I ended up doing the 4 miles in 35:43, including a few stoplights.  Not exactly the slow run I planned, but it felt good, nonetheless. The Lululemon shorts totally rocked the run!  They were so … [Read more...]
