Today on Tuesdays on the Run, we want you to show us your shoes! Here are mine... You might notice that they all have something in common. Yes, they are all Altras. I will admit to being part of Altra's Red Team, but even if I hadn't been asked back in 2018, I would still only run in Altra's. I've been an ambassador for the last 4 years and I had the pleasure of meeting the creator at the Runner's World event a few years ago. The story of the creation of the shoes is interesting (it involves a toaster oven, just sayin') I was first introduced to Altra Running shoes when I was given a pair as an ambassador gift when I was a ZOOMA Ambassador. I was running in "barefoot" and low drop shoes and having all sorts of issues with not … [Read more...]
Altra Paradigm Review & a May Shoe Event
I'm an Altra Running girl. I was given my first pair of Altra's as a gift for being a ZOOMA ambassador in 2014. I put on that pair of shoes and went for a run and I fell in love! So, when Road Runner Sports offered me the opportunity to try out a different model than my usual shoes, I jumped on it. I was sent the Altra Paradigm (affiliate link). Like the One 2.5 that's my go to shoe, the Altra Paradigm is a neutral shoe. It also has a foot shaped toe box and zero drop, like all of the other Altra shoes I've worn. However, unlike the One and the Impulse, the Paradigm is one of Altra's max cushioning shoes. As such, the ground feel is completely different than my other Altra's. The Altra Paradigm is a heavier shoe … [Read more...]
Saucony Kinvara 4 make me feel sassy!
When an unexpected box showed up at my door a few weeks ago, I picked it up and thought "who sent me an empty box?" Seriously. It was that light. Turns out, Saucony sent me a pair of Kinvara 4's to try out. I'll admit I didn't exactly jump for joy when I opened the box. I mean, I loved the packaging, but I was pretty sure that I wasn't going to like the shoes. I had tried on the Kinvara 3's not long before and they didn't work for me. (I bought the Virrata's instead.) But, I love shoes. No, really, I have a ridiculous number of shoes. So, I decided to give the 4s a try. According to Saucony: Building on its award winning pedigree, the Kinvara 4 is a perfect synthesis of celebrated design elements from previous versions. … [Read more...]
39.3 miles in the Saucony Virrata
For the last year+, I've been on a quest. For what? The perfect running shoe. When I started wearing minimalist shoes, I found that I run too heavy and on too much pavement to run major mileage with little or no cushion. Don't get me wrong, I love my Vibrams and my Pace Gloves, but my feet and calves were not at all enamored of them once I started half marathon training. My trashed feet at the end of last spring's half convinced me I needed to find a new solution. I decided I needed a cushioned, zero drop shoe. Apparently Saucony was listening and designed the Virrata with me in mind. From the Saucony website: The Virrata is our lightest and most flexible training shoe and allows your foot to move naturally. We removed … [Read more...]
Just call me Cinderella
Wait, that was many feet, one pair of shoes. So, maybe Goldilocks. But that only took her three tries. Crap, I'm not up on my fairy tales. What can I say, I'm the mom of two boys - all I hear about are legos and ninjas LOL. But, seriously, I do feel like I'm on a quest for the perfect shoe and I can't quite find the right one. I love all of them, but each and every pair comes with a drawback. Here's what's currently in rotation: Mizuno Wave Riders Newton Gravitas Brooks Pure Connect Merrell Pace Glove Vibram Five Fingers My feet After running in vibrams the other day and barefoot on the treadmill for my speedwork, I'm pretty sure that my other shoes have become too small. Become too small, you … [Read more...]
