I'm sitting at the airport, waiting for my flight to Denver. I'll be spending my weekend enjoying all things Skirt Sports. I think I packed 10 skirts (a mix of happy girls and gym girl ultras) for the events + the Electric Dress. The big question is whether I remembered to bring running shoes for the 5k. Ah well, if I didn't, I'll walk it in my sandals LOL. I will apologize in advance that my Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter feeds will be FILLED with Skirt this weekend. We get to spend some time at the store (yes, I left room in my suitcase for more skirts. Shh, don't tell Beer Geek LOL), we'll go on a hike, and the there's the race. I opted for the 5k for a lot of reasons. Should be interesting as I haven't run a 5K in a REALLY long … [Read more...]
ZOOMA Annapolis weekend
This past weekend was jam packed with lots of fun, quite a few hills, and a whole lot of beer! Of course, that means it was ZOOMA Annapolis weekend! Up until Friday morning, I wasn't sure if I was going to get to head to Annapolis early or if I'd be driving in the morning of the race. Thankfully, ZOOMA offers a few DC area packet pickups in addition to their Friday Expo in Annapolis, so I picked up my bib early, just in case. Luckily though, the stars aligned and I was able to head out of DC around 2 and Cynthia offered me space in the room she was sharing with Sandra and Sue. Halfway to Annapolis, I realized I'd forgotten to eat lunch and that I had also not brought anything to eat the morning of the race. Oops. I thought about … [Read more...]
Spring? Where are you?
Yesterday turned out to be a glorious spring day. It started off rainy (and I started off whiny), but then the sun came out an it actually got warm. So warm, in fact, that I was overdressed for my run and I opened the windows when I got home. Today it is 44* and rainy (Yay for that outdoor field trip to Mount Vernon!). Tomorrow at the start line for 17.75 it will be a "feels like" of 25*. Seriously, Mother Nature, get back on your meds. So, I'm having a hard time coming up with 5 spring foods I'd like to eat, as I'm still in comfort food mode from the weather and eat.all.the.things mode from all the running. Speaking of running, did I mention that I successfully completed 20 and 12 back to back? I ran out of time for the last 3 miles … [Read more...]
Savor the weekend
This weekend was our favorite beer event: Savor! It's an amazing opportunity to meet brewers and owners and try some really amazing beers. It's held each year at the National Building Museum, which is a gorgeous venue. I can't really put into words how much fun this is each time we do it. So, I'll just give you the highlights... We were first in the line to enter. I'd like to say I planned it that way, but it was one of those times when everything went smoothly and we got there 20 minutes earlier than I expected. We went to a beer-wine hybrid Salon put on by Lucid Brewing. The guys were great and the beers ranged from good to awesome. Perhaps starting out the evening with an 18% ABV beer was not my smartest move … [Read more...]
Savor, FitFoodie Rock My Run, a winner, and 20% off
Woo, that's quite a title! But seriously, so much going on that I needed a catch all post! Today is the marathon of the craft beer world! It's like Marine Corps used to be - you have to be fast with the fingers to get tickets. What am I talking about? SAVOR! If you've been around for a while, you know that Beer Geek and I love this event. It's a chance to meet brewers and owners of craft breweries, while having the opportunity to try out new beers and sample yummy foods. Like a marathon, even if you are well trained and take it slow (AKA hydrate like crazy), there will be "soreness" tomorrow. Thankfully, my Mother's Day present from Beer Geek and the boys is a day in the house by myself. ;o) Now let's talk music! As you … [Read more...]
WIAW: Whine and Beer
First the whine. (Yes, whine, not wine). I've had a rough week. I'm trying desperately to figure out what I need to pack for camp, as well as trying to make sure going completely off the grid will not result in unpaid bills (home or work), missed appointments, or anything else important. If that were the only thing going on in my life, I'd be stressed. But I'm also dealing with end of the school year activities, normal chores, regular work projects, and trying to get a work out in. And yesterday, my hamstring decided it was pissed at me and my brand new dishwasher stopped working. Yeah, great day around here. But the plumber and electrician are coming this morning, I can read books while in pigeon pose, and I am going to find my … [Read more...]

3 times 3 Thursday: Jobs, illnesses, and beer.
1. I've been calling myself a stay at home mom for about 7 years now. But, it occurred to me the other day that I've become more of a work at home mom over the last year. I'm currently juggling two occupations and hope to add a third on Friday. I am basically the operations manager for a friend's company. He's been getting more work than he can handle on his own, so I'm taking over making sure that some of the work gets done by his contractors. I've had to learn a bunch of new software systems and create whole new processes. I love it and it uses my brain in ways it hasn't been used in a while. I'm also coaching two women to fall marathons, complete with occasional accompanied runs. On Friday, I'm meeting about taking on the role … [Read more...]
Living the mantra
I've decided that my new mantra is "Every run is a good run." Yes, some runs are better than others, but every time I get out there and finish some miles, it's a good thing. Yesterday's run was one where I hauled it out a bit. The weather was beautiful, I needed the break from the kids, and I hit my goal pace spot on, but my legs felt like dead weights. Thankfully, they felt like dead weights regardless of how fast I was going, so I just ran my goal pace and distance and moved on. ;o) In other news, I may only get 2 or 3 states this year, but I'm getting two big ones. Last night I bought tickets to Salt Lake City, Utah for this summer. We have race plans in Utah and Wyoming. Woohoo for knocking out two big states. I have … [Read more...]
The Men of SAVOR
So, I got my annual picture of Sam Calagione of Dogfish Head on Saturday night. Shortly thereafter, I got the harebrained alcohol-influenced brilliant idea of getting pictures of myself with as many brewers/owners as I could in the short amount of the evening remaining. (What? You wouldn't buy a calendar made solely of me with a bunch of different brewers?) Luckily, I sobered up wasn't able to get 12 pictures.Huge thank yous to the guys who tolerated me and even took a picture with a smile. One thing I can say about craft brewers is that they are seriously nice people!Sam Calagione of Dogfish Head(I try every year, but can't seem to get a decent picture.)Rob Tod of Allagash Brewing CompanyGreg Koch of Stone … [Read more...]
Beer Weekend
For only the second time since Jones was born, Beer Geek and I went away for TWO nights. Woohoo! And we went all the way to DC, a distance of about 5 miles LOL. The view from our hotel room After checking into our hotel, we headed over to the Brickskeller for the Lupulin Reunuless. The speaker list read like a "Who's Who" in craft brewing. (Ken Grossman of Sierra Nevada, Kim Jordan of New Belgium, Rob Tod of Allagash, Sam Calagione of Dogfish Head, Greg Koch of Stone, Bob Pease of the Brewers Association, and Bill Madden of Virginia’s brand new Mad Fox Brewpub) Each brewer had brought 2 beers for a total of 12 beers to taste. As per usual, they'd brought some unusual and/or hard to find beers. I finally got to taste the … [Read more...]
Semi Wordless Wednesday: Savor pictures
