This weekend is the coffee date link up with Deb and Coco. Sadly, given the current pandemic, there will be no in person coffee dates. If we were having coffee, I'd tell you that I hosted a "Corona Relay" this weekend. Every runner had to run 3 legs in 24-36 hours. I managed 13.3 miles (math error, oops) in 24 hours. I had to do the last 3 on my treadmill because it was mid afternoon on a gorgeous day. The number of people walking past my house was ridiculous. If we were having coffee, I'd tell you that I'm on day 11 of a run streak. I am happier on days when I run, so now I'm running every day. Today was leg day, so I only got in a mile and I did it on a T intersection near my house. I had to run it 8 times to get a … [Read more...]
Marine Corps Marathon 50K Training
According to various training plans I've been looking at, it's nearing time to get this party started. I've done some crazy things in the past, including 7 half marathons in 7 days and two marathons in the same weekend. I've created training plans in the past to accommodate these antics, so now it's time to take all the plans I've been looking at and put them together in a perfect plan for me. I won't be sharing it here - I've designed one that works for MY body and its strengths and weaknesses - but here are some elements I plan to use to be successful in October Incorporate one or two full marathons as training runs. I've already identified a few options in September and early October. Most of the plans I've looked at … [Read more...]
March Coffee Date – Lion or Lamb
Here we are, one month closer to being done with winter. I generally don't mind winter, but this has been one of the rainiest that I can remember and I'm pretty much over that. But I've had a lot going on, so grab a big cuppa and we'll chat with Deb and Coco‘s and catch up on things. If we were having coffee, I'd tell you that last week was one heck of a roller coaster. There were just so many things up in the air. On the bright side, we got tickets to Savor again, Jones got accepted to something he really wanted, and I got into MCM 50k. That's right! I'll be running my first 50k this fall instead of the Marine Corps Marathon. And Beer Geek didn't believe me when I told him I would not be running the marathon. If we were … [Read more...]
Runfessing that I’m ready for January to end
Here we are nearing the end of January and I'm gonna jump right in with the Runfessions: This month has not gone as planned. Not from a running standpoint, not from a housekeeping standpoint, not from a momming standpoint. So, yeah, January can just step aside (and take next week's cold weather predictions with it.) I'm joining Marcia to runfess my sins of the last month. So far this month, my kids have already had two snow days and 2 or 3 late starts, in addition to a holiday. They also have this coming Monday off for teacher grading day. I runfess that despite my best intentions, I slept in every day that they did. Sleeping in only means sleeping until 8am, but that means my morning workout time is gone. I've managed to get in most … [Read more...]
The Ultramarathon: it’s a natural progression
An ultramarathon has been on my radar for a while now. The thing that was holding me back is that I'm not a trail runner (and not likely to become one any time soon). When I started researching "the next step", ie 50K, most of what I found was more technical than I wanted. And I admit, I have a somewhat irrational fear of getting lost. Ok, totally irrational, over the top, fear. I mean, I get that sometimes you need to leave your comfort zone, but honestly, I'd like to stay in the same galaxy as my comfort zone. Credit: NASA Then I was introduced to the world of timed races. I started looking around and there are lots and lots of options. You can run for 6 hours or 9 hours or 12 hours. But who wants to start with something sane. (Or … [Read more...]
