ZOOMA Annapolis Half Marathon May 31, 2014 2:22:35 Welcome to Venus! 13 half marathons in 79 days = FINISHED!!! Temp: high 50s and sunny, definitely warmer at the end What I wore: hat, short sleeve shirt, Skirt Sports Happy Girl skirt, PROCompression socks, and my trusty Altra Intuitions Race Morning I got up at 5am and slowly got ready. I was sharing a room with Sue, so it was fun to chat while we were getting ready. We ended up walking over to the start instead of driving. The walk took less than 10 minutes. I heard from others that parking was a breeze too. Seems like you can't go wrong either way. We met up with the Ambassadors for a photo op and then another one with MRTT and then it was go … [Read more...]
5 things I love about the Frederick Running Festival
This weekend I am running half marathon #10 for 2014! Only 3 more to go after this. This race was supposed to be my "A" race for the spring. I had big hopes of pushing for a sub-2:10. While I haven't ruled it out, I'm thinking it's not likely. Why? Because Mother Nature has decided to go straight from soup weather to hot weather. And I don't deal well with the heat at the beginning of the summer. So, I guess I'll make a game day decisions as to how to handle the race. So, in keeping with Mar, Courtney, and Cynthia's theme: 5 Things I Love about the Frederick Running Festival 1. The location - Frederick is only about an hour from where I live in Virginia, so it's super easy to get to. I love that it's close and accessible, … [Read more...]
30 states and 30 half marathons
Unfortunately not 30 half marathons in 30 states... With the completion of the Riverboat Series, I have now finished races in 30 states! I'm really excited to hit 30 states, but, umm, I changed the rules (and convinced Beer Geek to go along with it) - I now want to do half marathons in every state. Luckily, I've got 14 states + DC already done, so it's not like I'm starting from 0. I'm not in a rush. Sure, I'd love to race in 50 states by the time I'm 50, but as long as I'm making forward progress, I'm ok with where ever I am. It's about the journey, not the goal. In other big news, I have Nike Women's Half Marathon this Sunday. Why is this big news? Nike will be my 30th lifetime half marathon!!! If you'd told me, back … [Read more...]
Half Marathon #7 for 2014: Riverboat Series Day 4 – Mississippi
Riverboat Series Half Marathon -Mississippi April 15, 2014 2:17:19 Temp: low 40s and windy What I wore: hat, Bondi band, short sleeve shirt, YMX arm sleeves, Skirt Sports Happy Girl skirt, PROCompression socks, Brooks Essential Run jacket, gloves, and my trusty Altra Intuitions Once again, the weather decided to throw us for a loop. It was cold and windy, but sunny. I was so glad that on a whim I'd packed a pair of gloves and my arm sleeves! The course was another mostly flat 1.31 mile out and back. Thanks to the previous day's rain, the course was changed a bit and I liked the change a lot. This was the first race where I could tell I had trained hard all winter and I felt AWESOME the entire time. The good: The course was … [Read more...]
Half Marathon #6 for 2014: Riverboat Series Day 3 – Arkansas
Riverboat Series Half Marathon -Arkansas April 14, 2014 2:24:22 Temp: low 60s and damp at the start, torrential downpours at the end What I wore: hat, short sleeve shirt, Skirt Sports Happy Girl skirt, PROCompression socks, and my trusty Altra Intuitions How shall I describe this race? Never.a.dull.moment. We started the day by following Google map's directions to the start. Their directions involved gravel roads on the levee, big puddles, and cows standing mere inches from the road. Thankfully, Beer Geek grew up driving on roads like that, so we beat the GPS time by 3 minutes. (If I'd been driving, we'd still be out there...) The race only got better from there... The course was a 1.31 loop that half marathoners had to … [Read more...]
Half Marathon #5 for 2014: Riverboat Series Day 2 – Tennessee
Riverboat Series Half Marathon - Tennessee April 13, 2014 2:18:41 Temp: mid-60s, humid, and windy What I wore: hat, short sleeve shirt, Skirt Sports Happy Girl skirt, PROCompression socks, and (sadly) a new pair of Brooks Pure Flow 2 This race was everything that the first one wasn't. It was all paved, the hills were slight rollers, and there was a good amount of shade. I woke up feeling pretty good and was ready to go. In fact, I rocked the first five miles and then made the decision to slow down so I would have enough for the rest of the week. Unfortunately, at mile 8, I discovered that the Brooks shoes hurt my foot. The last four miles were a bit of a struggle as I tried to land lightly and not hurt my foot. Even with … [Read more...]
