2020 has been a year of major ups and downs. In some ways, it's been the hardest year of my life, but there have been some really amazing things as well. Beer Geek and I got to go on vacation in Bermuda before the world shut down and we celebrated 25 years of marriage. Jones graduated high school and got a major scholarship to college. Shoo finished middle school and is actually doing surprisingly well with online high school. So, when I struggle to not slide into darkness, I have to remind myself that not everything sucks. If we were having coffee, I'd tell you that I continue to struggle with running. It's not the actual running that's a problem - it's the motivation to do it. Once I'm out there, running itself is usually fine. … [Read more...]
Reasons to Lift Weights after 50
OK, I'm not *quite* to 50 yet, but that big round number is looming in my near future. 2020 is a big year around here - Beer Geek and I will have been married 25 years, Jones goes off to college, and I hit 50. And I've really been struggling with my fitness since the 50K training messed with my hamstring. I'm finding that my body does not recover as well as it used to and all those things I skipped in my younger years are coming back to haunt me. I'm currently back on the FWTFL program, which has 3 weight workouts each week, plus HIIT which can range from a kettlebell workout to bodyweight tabatas to sprints. Since life is a lot busier than the days when I had time to run for more than an hour every day of the week, I find the super … [Read more...]

I'm trying to roll with the punches for our family schedule, I've taken another part time job running ZOOMA's ambassador program, and I'm working out in a different way. I've had to make some changes to my life to accommodate those things. I keep a running list of tickets I need to buy and races I'd like to run (along with deadlines for price increases, although I'm currently of the opinion that I'll pay more and actually run a race rather than register early and lose that money if life gets in the way.) I have timers on my computer that I use … [Read more...]
Mama got a new pair of socks!
So, I've managed to keep up my weight workouts for two weeks. I'm seeing a bit of muscle in my shoulders and back and my legs feel a bit stronger. If I keep it up for two more weeks, I get to buy some new running tights. Hopefully that will be enough incentive to keep going and hopefully by then, I'll see enough body improvements to want to keep doing it for that. I am pretty excited by the new socks though LOL and Jones loves his new Brooks shoes (and Shoo seems to think that the 26.2 magnet I bought belongs to him LOL). All in all, a good trip to the LRS. I did a 10 mile run yesterday and it felt pretty good. I averaged just under a 10 minute pace, with only one mile being over 10 (mile 7 where I hit two stoplights and ate a Gu). If I … [Read more...]
