Freedom's Run MarathonOctober 5, 20195:49:54 Temp: mid-40s to mid 60sWhat I wore:hat, tank top, a Skirt Sports Cascade Skirt, compression socks, and Altra Kayenta I ran this race as a training run for the Marine Corps Marathon 50k. I was warned ahead of time that the second half was crazy hilly, but I wasn't worried because I had zero time goals. Spoiler: I should have been worried. I decided to "sleep" in my own bed the night before, so I got up super early and made the drive out to Harpers Ferry. I got there in record time and picked up my bib and shirt. White House, racing, and feuds, oh my!
Today I'm wrapping up a busy and epic week. I mean, any week that involves a visit to the White House has to be epic, right? Not only did I get to hear the First Lady Speak, I got to talk with Dominique Dawes! I also got a selfie with a favorite RBF who I don't see often enough. After my day of White House visiting, I had to immediately start getting ready for a weekend away. With everything that I'd been up to (RNR DC expo, Capitol tour, RNR DC, soccer tournament, White House, etc.), we were completely out of clean clothes and we were leaving town on Friday! State #17: Wild and Wonderful West Virginia
Well, it was definitely wild. And wet. This past weekend I was in Shepherdstown, WV for the Chesapeake Watershed Forum. Conveniently, Freedom's Run was the same weekend and they offered everything from a 5k to a full marathon. After a full day of conference stuff, I headed over to packet pick up with my parents and managed to switch to the 5k. (I'm attempting to have as few 5k's as my state races as possible, but I'm not in 10k shape. Sad but true.) Pre-race Anyways, packet pickup was a breeze and I got to talk to one of the guys at Two Rivers Treads, which has the Center for Natural Running and Walking.
