Yesterday, I went on my last “long” run. It was 6 miles with 2 extra miles of run/walk. 8.3 miles in 1:32 was not exactly where I thought my training would be at this point, but it ended an almost 30 mile week. Am I happy that my last double digit run was in the beginning of February? No. Do I wish I’d gone to the chiropractor sooner and had an extra week of running? Yes.
I’m sad that I didn’t have a 200 mile month and that my highest mileage week was 50 miles, because I never intend to do this again. (Kindly remind me of that when I start looking at the Riverboat Series that Mainly Marathons is planning for April of 2014…)
But it is what it is. I considered trying to continue to add mileage this coming week, but my experienced runner friends have convinced me otherwise. Pushing myself at this point is just going to tire my legs and increase my likelihood of injury. The best thing I can do for myself at this point is to run a few short easy runs, eat right, and get a lot of sleep.
The training is done. Nothing I do now (other than rest) will make 65.5 miles in five days easier and it might make it worse.
So, taper, here I come.
And, honestly, I need this week to prepare the other aspects of my life for next week. I have so many lists that it’s ridiculous. I may have to make a list of my lists LOL.
I’m nervous, overwhelmed, and excited all at once.
You are going to rock this!
Also, a list of your lists. Brilliant! I may have to try that myself.
and IM ONLY EXCITED.
you gots this.
I think your base will get you through. You will do this and you will enjoy it! I can’t wait to read all about it. Good luck!
I always feel that way when I get to taper… wondering if I could have done a little more. But I know you’re well prepared. Enjoy the taper, and go get it!
You are so ready! But I do wish you would quit posting those things for next year as I keep looking at them. 🙂
You’re going to be just fine…like you said, not worth looking back over what you had hoped to do, just focus on the goal. Very excited for you!
I’m so excited for you. Can’t wait to hear how it all goes down. The good, the bad, and the ugly.
Oh (stated very quietly), I am eyeing the Riverboat Series too. I need the first 3 states. I’m glad that it starts on a Saturday, not a Monday.
You’ve totally got this!!
I can’t wait to read all about your experience with the 5 in 5!! I hope it is a positive and fun time for you!!!
Even though the tapering week seems to be the longest week ever you will thank yourself later for it. I’m really looking forward to reading about the 5 in 5, good luck, best wishes and take care!!
I make lists out of…everything. Lists of lists is not uncommon in my world, so there is no judgment coming from me.
Embrace the taper, you have done all you can do and are going to go into the race strong knowing you are rested and ready for anything it throws at you.
You may not have had the training you wanted, but you probably got the training you NEEDED. You’ll kill it. No worries.
Your experienced running friends are right. Nothing much will be achieved by running extra at this point except maybe the chance of another injury. Now it’s just a matter of packing. Good luck with that.
Nice job on your training, MCM Mama! Enjoy your taper, get some rest and knock ’em dead!
Looks like I’ve got two race series to check out. Those aren’t terribly far from me!
Good luck!!! The rest will be good – you’ve got this. Can’t wait to cheer you on!
