Did you ever look at your calendar and realize that you’re going to have to do some serious run juggling to hit your training goals? Usually my schedule is pretty flexible, but I have a really busy week ahead. As luck would have it, I also need to run at least 42 miles. We have an event all day Saturday and, assuming I am not hurting too badly (AKA sweating beer), I have an event Sunday morning. The end result is that I need to run those 42+ miles in the next 5 days. Ugh.
Today’s plan? I sent the boys to the movies with Beer Geek and I was going to run at least 8 miles.
Fail #1: In my rush to buy groceries and get the boys fed and out the door, I forgot to eat breakfast OR lunch. Oops. So I started my run on nothing but coffee and a small piece of bread.
Fail#2: I realized one mile in that I’d forgotten my phone. I REALLY hate running without it. The ground is still kind of slippery and drivers around here are idiots, so I circled back towards the house. Got to the house at 3 miles and grabbed my phone. I considered jumping on the treadmill, but went back out.
Fail#3: I quickly realized my stomach was really unhappy about the coffee and nothing else fueling. I ran a mile or so and then decided I’d run loops near my house until I *had* to go in.
Fail#4: On the way back to my house, I tripped on a chunk of snow and went flying. Amazingly, I landed on my feet, but not without slamming into my neighbor’s fence and scraping my hand, resulting in blood dripping everywhere. (Apparently I bleed well.) I got back to the house at 5.3 miles.
Was that it? Nope.
I hit the bathroom, took care of my tummy issues, attempted to bandage my hand, and threw on a pair of shorts (no way were those tights going back up on my sweaty legs.)
3 miles on the treadmill later and I’d hit 8.3 miles for the day.
Boom! Done!
I’m impressed that you got on the treadmill after all of that – I would have been tempted to just call it a day!
Trust me, I was tempted to quit, but I have a lot of miles to get through this week…
test again
So many reasons to quit but you didn’t. I’d give you a high five but my arm just isn’t that long.
I’m so impressed that you pushed on and didn’t quit! I would have gone back for my phone too. I can’t run without it for some reason!
Wow, I am so impressed that you got on the treadmill and finished after all that! And I hope that your hand is better.
Oh man that is hardcore! I would have given up pretty quickly! It sounds like you won’t let anything stop you from reaching your milage goals though which is pretty awesome! I hope your hand feels better and that you’re back to running outside.
Dedication for sure! I hope the rest of your day was smooth as planned… 🙂
When life does that, and you still manage to make it happen– you get a serious *high five*.
I have NO idea why I couldn’t see a comment field earlier today, when now I can clearly see that people commented on this post days ago. So strange. But I swear it wasn’t there before. Anyway. I just wanted to say that you freaking rock. Seriously. The fact that you got this run done (and even slightly over-done) says a lot about you. =)
