I woke up at 4:45am today. Not because I wanted to, but because the school system texted: Schools closed. There may have been a few curse words uttered in response. I had expected a delay, but it never crossed my mind that they would close. (Turns out, it wasn’t a bad call – I saw a dude wipe out on a sidewalk that was in full sun an hour after the kids would have gone with a delay.) Solid ice was still coating everything when I got up two hours later than I normally would.
But I have 17 miles to run today. Umm, yeah.
This is where I’m extremely thankful that my kids are older and my husband works from home. I’m heading out in just a few minutes with only two goals: finish all 17 miles and not fall on my ass. Luckily, things seem to be melting, so I have a good chance of staying upright.
We had a busy weekend with a Dr. Seuss book swap at the school (my big volunteer activity each year), a school auction (where I spent a crazy amount of money so my kid could eat pizza with his teacher LOL), and a day of nothing but ice yesterday. One would think I would have gotten a lot done yesterday, but in reality, the gray, icky day resulted in me spending most of the day on the couch with a book. Fun, but not productive. Notice that very little running occurred. Hopefully today I’ll get back on my training program.
And for those playing along at home, here’s the Happy Girl Skirt winner. Please email me at mcmmamaruns at gmail.com ASAP. Thanks! And don’t forget that if you didn’t win, you can use my code to get 20% off: SSMCM20
I’m so impressed by your dedication, I don’t know if I’d venture out for 17 miles under these conditions. Good luck!
Hope your run went well – 17 miles in these conditions is tough!
Run, baby, run! Get those miles in! I’m glad you are able to stay on track.
Ugh – bummer on another snow day!! Hope you got that 17 miles done with no injuries!!!
I hope you can accomplish both goals.
I get to run tomorrow…we’re supposed to get snow, sleet, ice, and/or rain. Hmmm….
Way to get out there. I could see wiping out, myself.
Here’s to warmer days!
Hope your run was great and uneventful…as in no spills.
You are dedicated. I’ve decided that in less-than-desirable conditions, I’ll go for time instead of distance. I’d rather put for the effort but not risk injury (ahem, falling on said arse) and still get the training in. Good luck!
This winter has to end sometime soon surely.
It warmed up nicely yesterday but hopefully the wind didn’t make things too miserable! Spring, PLEASE get here!
