Today was absolutely gorgeous! Low 60s when I first went outside and it continued to warm up to about 72. I needed to do a short run, so I sent Beer Geek and the boys to the park and I headed out for a quick three miler. I wore a short sleeve shirt and capris. By the time I finished running, I was soaking wet and in serious need of water. My actual times were ok (9:41, 9:05, 9:18), but my rate of perceived exertion was MUCH higher than it should have been. While I love 60 degree temps, my body is not ready to run in them. I’d actually rather have next week’s race be cold, rather than hot.
Tomorrow is my last “hard” run before the race. I was planning 6 miles at about a 9:15 pace, but it’s supposed to be pretty warm again. I think I may end up having to slow the pace down to closer to 9:30.
I did see something pretty funny while I was out running today. A guy was walking towards me on the sidewalk of a busy road. I didn’t really pay much attention to him, but then suddenly he bent down and then jumped to the other side of the sidewalk. He did the same thing on the other side. I’m thinking “WTF, should I turn around and run the other direction?” and then suddenly realized what he was doing. He was practicing the moves for a Bolivian dance that the dance groups around here do in all the local parades. As soon as I got close, he stopped, but it totally cracked me up that I’ve seen enough Bolivian dances that I actually recognized the rythym and the moves LOL.
I’m with you, I’d rather race in colder temps (no knock on 60 deg…but a bit warm for ideal race conditions). Good luck with your last hard run before the race. 🙂
Sixty degrees sounds perfect, but it makes sense that your body might need adjusting after a cold winter. That’s funny about the Bolivian dancing guy! My first instincts would be to assume he’s crazy. That must be SOME dance!
OK, I’ve found another blog that talks about running and beer!! Life is good. OK, I’ll be following you from now on if that’s ok? I too have been fortunate enough to be able to run in 60 degree temps the past 2 days. That will end again, as it will drop back to the 40’s this week. Why do I live in CT again?!
My 7-miler in the heat yesterday kicked my @$$ too, sister, as you already know. I almost went out in sweat pants, till Teh ‘Bride prevailed upon me to change into shorts. This was the first 7-miler I’d done since way before the injury back in November. I knew it was warm, so I wore my camel back for hydrational purposes.Still … as I said, kicked my AY-ESS!!I hope whatever this stupid weather does, it STICKS WITH IT!1! If we get another snow storm after this, it might drive me to drink, which is stupid because gqh drinking is just a short walk away (to me beer cellar) at all times, so why waste teh gas with driving?
That first hit of heat is the worst. Hopefully it cools down for your race!
I think that the first warm run of the season is killer. As much as I hate the cold I like running in it better. By cold I mean tolerable coolness 30-50 degrees.
It definitely is an adjustment to run in warmer weather – but lucky you with those temps! I thought my 32 degrees was pretty warm yesterday. 🙂
What a great time to run! Good luck with your upcoming race. Hopefully the weather stays as nice.
I am loving this weather, but I agree…colder temps are better for races! I still have to email you back–I was visitng my grandparents this week and have 50 emails to respond to!
Yeah – I have to get used to this warmness too. Not complaining though 🙂
hope your run today went well! Loving the warm up too! 😀
For me, 60 degrees is cold, bu I know what you mean. It tales awhile t adjust to temp differences.
