Or, more accurately “How crazy is she and how many races marathons will she run?”
I’m joining up with Amanda at Running with Spoons for Thinking Out Loud because I need to do a mind dump and today is as good any.
1. My *A* race this year is Marine Corps Marathon. Barring something stupid (aka not listening to my body), I will run it. Between the 17.75 run entry, the lottery, a bib transfer, or fundraising, I will get in. And I would like to run a PR. This means beating 4:36 (and if I can beat 4:30, I’m pretty sure the angels will sing.)
2. I want to have a really strong mileage base going into the summer. I know that I will struggle with July and August. Except for the summer I trained for Marine Corps Marathon the first time, I’ve historically sucked at running during the summer months. I will need to be running 5 days a week to meet my B+ goal, so runs will happen, it’s just a question of how long they’ll be when it’s 90* out at 8am.
3. So, my plan for the spring is mileage building with back to back long(ish) runs. This will serve me well for my New York and New Jersey races, as well as Ragnar.
And there just might be an attempt at Marathon Maniacs in there.
4. So, do I run RNR DC as a marathon or half marathon? (If you want to join me, the code 15in2015 will get you $15 off of DC or select other RNR races.)
See this jacket?
And the medal is pretty darn cool as well…
One has to wonder if a supported training run might be in order. (I need somewhere around 18 or 19 that weekend.)
Oh look, I see the guys in white jackets coming to get me…
[Tweet “Are you motivated by bling? If so, the #rnrdc jacket for the full marathon is pretty sweet! #rocknblog”]
Disclaimer: I’m a member of RocknBlog 2015, but the crazy musings are all mine…
Those DC medals are pretty cool!!! I want to build a strong mileage base going into summer as well then hopefully training for my marathon in the Fall won’t suck as much 😛
I’m not always motivated by bling. But that Sarasota half marathon has a sweet dolphin medal, as well as a 10 year anniversary jacket this year. I’d run it regardless! It’s Florida!
The bling definitely motivates me. Extra medal, yes please! It seems a lot of people are doing the Rock n Roll DC this year, should be a fun one!
I’m definitely motivated by bling! the blinger the better 😉 but I have been known to run races for the city it’s in and if pals are around. I’m focused on Shamrock so not doing RnRDC or probably any RnR this year.
That jacket and those medals are pretty awesome! Maybe I need to consider a trip to DC?????
that jacket is pretty sweet! i’m SO excited you are doing MCM – i’m hopefully doing it as well 🙂 not excited about summer long runs but maybe we can do a couple together!
Good luck with the PR! You have plenty of time to train so I’m sure you’ll kill it.
The jacket is really nice for RnR as are the medals. You could wait to decide that week and see how you feel. exciting plans for you this year.
That is a pretty sweet medal RnRDC’s got this year. I want to do it so badly, but I just can’t this year. I foresee this being a problem with my whole 50 in 50 attempt. I want to do them all RIGHTNOW.
Sounds like a great plan! Those RNR jackets look pretty rockn’! I’m thinking I might need to do the Seattle half again this year. They put on a great race 🙂
That jacket is pretty awesome, I just wish it wasn’t right before Paris, plus I would never be trained up in time since I was sick….oh well, maybe next year? I say go for it!
I’m still unsure if I’m doing the RNR DC Half. I ran it last year and it wasn’t my favorite but might be fun as a #rocknblog lady to meet up with people! I heard the RNR DC marathon course is not very fun or exciting after the half splits off to finish-but that jacket is sweet!
I’m hoping to run Marine Corps this year and want to break 4:37. Maybe we’ll be pacing one another to a PR out there. 🙂
I also struggle during the summer months. I am inside when I run, and that’s non-negotiable. I don’t even think about running in the dark because it’s just as hot.
I thought about the full for RnR DC but I’ll be in half Ironman training mode and need to stay focused. The Philly marathon gave me a recent example of how I need some post-marathon time to recover before jumping back into things, although if I were doing Marathon Maniacs I’d be able to push through. I’m doing the full at Rehoboth in December, so maybe I’ll add a RnR full leading up to it for MM!
yes! I’m in the market for a fall marathon PR as well! I’ll motivate you, you motivate me! Yes, I’m very motivated by bling too!
I historically suck at summer running too! LOL. And I’m thinking about a July marathon. Heh. Crazy. I do appreciate a nice medal. I ran Mercedes just for the emblem. But I’ll run a race for other reasons too. A nice course is a lure.
I’m actually not motivated by bling. I seem to join races last minute so I am motivated by friends. LOL
I’m considering the RNR DC 5K. Looking fwd to following you train for your marathon.
this NONRUNNER IS SO SO SO MOTIVATED BUT, not bling but JACKETS 🙂
Those jackets are super cool! I’ve always wanted to do a RNR race but there aren’t any even remotely near me. Good luck with your training and your race schedule this year!
