Oy, ’tis the season of holiday parties! Beer Geek and I were invited to two parties this weekend and I had a Moms Run This Town party. Quite a busy weekend!
Friday was the MRTT party that I mentioned in my coffee post. It was held at a local Mexican place, so obviously the drink of choice was margaritas. I only had one small one because I was driving, but it was tasty (as were the fish tacos.) It was great to catch up with some of the ladies that I had not seen since Ragnar Cape Cod as more than half of our team was there.
I also participated in the gift exchange and got really useful stuff: a flashing light for night running (which I’ve been actually doing lately with a group), arm sleeves, and NUUN. Lucky me!
Saturday morning I woke up with a wicked headache. I think it was at least in part from sinus, but it was the kind of headache that makes you nauseous. I finally managed to beat it into submission with the combo of ibuprofen and Coca Cola. It took so much of my morning though that in order to keep my run streak alive, I did a quick one mile in lounge pants. What can I say, a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do!
After my run, we headed over to the first party. Umm, you know you’re attending a party made for Beer Geek when the hosts have 8! beers on tap (yes, in their home) and 7 were home brewed by them and other attendees. Even better, their home-brew beers were better than many beers you can buy in the store. Winning! We had a great time, but had to head home to feed the boys dinner before we headed to our next party.
Party #2 was walking distance to our house, so we packed up some beer in a backpack (pretty sure that’s not what Lands End expected their kid’s backpack to be used for…) and headed over. It was another beer crowd, but the beer was mostly craft brews.
I may have tried so many beers (I don’t think I actually drank an entire bottle of any of the beers…) that I felt like I had to re-activate my Untapped account. Join me there if you like good beer!
We got home at a mostly reasonable hour, but I didn’t sleep well and ended up sleeping in until almost 11am. Crazy! I woke up with a slight headache again, but I’m also stuffier, so that may be the issue. When I rolled out of bed, I could barely walk. Umm, apparently my calves are not a fan of non-running shoes. I finally managed to get out for a 3.1 mile run (with speed intervals!) at around 3pm. I had to wear compression socks so that my calves would stop bitching at me. Oy. It was a good day in general though – pajamas to running clothes to pajamas is my kind of day.
We have two more weeks until Christmas break and they are going to be CRAZY! We have two concerts, two beer events, 4 or 5 more parties, 4 soccer practices, and a few other random things in the next 14 days. I’m tired already! (And somewhere in there, I need to work and I need to finish Christmas shopping.)
How was your weekend? Are you in over scheduled holiday mode too? I’m just proud of myself for getting in at least 30 minutes of working out (and at least 1 mile of running) each day since Thanksgiving!
I’m linking up with HoHo Runs and Tricia for Weekly Wrap this morning.
You should be happy getting in the movement!
No, for me, life isn’t at all crazy. We have no parties that we know of, although they tend to be come up last minute. A trip to my parents at some point, probably. Geez, we were just here and my mom was already saying the bed is made up if we want to stay overnight!
Good luck on surviving all your craziness.
I just wish our friends would spread the parties out more LOL. Although more weekends of eating too much would likely not be good for me either.
Overscheduled holiday mode – yes! I feel like this happens earlier and earlier every year!
I’ve got so much shopping to do, and I’m completely avoiding it! What is wrong with me?
I just can’t drink margaritas anymore. The sweetness gets to me, and yep, I get headaches from them…
Yeah, I don’t drink them often, but Mexican restaurants aren’t generally known for good beer.
I am totally over scheduled the next few weeks too. I feel like I am in the eye of the storm today after a crazy weekend and another crazy one to come. So great to see you Friday!
Yep, same here. And I still need to figure out presents for the kids. Ugh.
December is always such a jam packed, over scheduled month. I always feel like January is my recovery month!
I totally agree. I think a busy December helps me get through the hibernation time that is January…
jam packed weekend! yes, this is definitely the season for parties and such. pjs to run clothes to pjs is my kinda day as well! 🙂
We are in full holiday swing! We had two parties this weekend (one for kids and one for grown ups), but I didn’t really drink because I had so much more to get done. I think I’m going to need to have several cocktails on Christmas to make up for it!
Hope your headaches start getting better. That’s the worst!
I didn’t really drink at the first party because I was the driver. But between the headache and not sleeping well, I got very little done…
Such social butterflies! Sounds like a really fun weekend, despite the headaches.
Usually we are not party people, so this was a fun week.
LOVE the leg lamp!!! Oh the xmas memories it brings up!
I know, it was hilarious. (Even more funny to watch them put it together.)
I traveled a lot in November so it’s great to have some downtime now, though I just noticed my schedule is a little insane. Tis the season I suppose! Sounds like you had some marvelous get togethers this weekend. Sorry about the headache and hoping you’re feeling better!
The actual holiday weeks should be nice, just crazy town leading up to it. I think the headache was sinus as I feel better now.
Sounds like a great MRTT party..any time there are margaritas it’s a win in my book!
It was fun. Not rundies fun, but fun.
Jeez, you do have lots going on! Sorry about the headache crud. I deal with that a lot this time of year myself and it sucks. 🙁
I am working on getting into the holiday spirit. I am looking forward to our running group holiday fun runs. We do a smallish one during one of the morning weekday runs, then the “real” one on a Saturday. Always a good time.
I need to run more with people in the new year. I’ve been way too much of a hermit lately.
This is such a crazy time of year and I am with you not he crazy amount of parties!
I know. Why does everyone have a holiday party? A mid January “it’s cold out party” would work for me. (And actually we throw one of those LOL)
OMG I am tired just reading this. I share your pain with the non-running shoes. I stood around all night in heels this weekend and I was in agony. Party animal I am not.
Several days later and my one foot still hurts. What???
8 beers on tap at their house? That sounds pretty awesome.
I am feeling pretty overwhelmed. I told myself I wouldn’t and now I totally am. So much to do!!! CRAZY. So glad you had fun at your parties!!
It was awesome and it was all good beer. Unfortunately (as usual) I was the designated driver, so I only got to have little tastes.
No 3 party weekends for me this year. I’ve said no thank you just the right number of times. Stress free holiday success!
I’m not a fan of so many in one weekend, but we have a few parties we always try to make. Two of them were back to back this past weekend…
You are spread pretty thin this month for sure! I’m pretty exhausted reading all you have on your calendar ha. The party picture looks great and hey no pony tails, lol! Ahhh December will be over with in no time and then hello 2016, and I’m in taper for my marathon, Yay! Thanks Erika for linking with us this week I hope you have a great week!
I feel for you, it’s as if everyone wants to squeeze all the fun into one month like we won’t be here in 2016! hahaha you’re almost there. Fortunately you have your running to keep you sane! I spent my weekend going to gym studio openings! (Orange theory and the Dailey Method Barre) Had a crazy holiday party too!
I don’t think it gets any better than margaritas and fish tacos. The parties sound fun! Is that THE leg lamp from Christmas Story? Congrats for getting in 30 minutes and a mile of running every day. That should keep you sane through the holidays, right? I’m all for running in lounging pants too. I was very head-achy last week but never got sick. It was weird. I appreciate you linking with us!
Things have been crazy (in agood way) for me recently as well! Also been getting into more beers so I might have to join you on untappd! I have been loving IPAs.
So many fun parties! The party with the 8 beers on tap sounds like fun! My hubby would have loved that one!
Great job getting a mile in despite your headache. I would have definitely stayed in bed, which is probably why my summer streak only lasted 17 days. We only have 4 1/2 more school days before Christmas Break. I have so much to do. I haven’t even started my Christmas shopping.
