I’ve been on a search for a running skirt that works for me for quite a long time. I’ve tried on every skirt I could find in my local running stores. I’ve ordered a few. I’ve even received one to review. Eventually I found my one true skirt. The skirt I’ll run many miles in. The skirt that I’ll likely run my next marathon in. (Wondering what I’m talking about? I heart me some Happy Hour/Happy Girl skirts from Skirt Sports.)
Along the way, I found a few nearly right skirts. Skirts that I could run in without too much of an issue. Skirts that I thought would be “the one”. But once I found my one true skirt, these skirts were relegated to the under the bed storage. They haven’t seen the light of day in months. And that’s not fair to them. They are designed to run. They should run.
So, I’m releasing them back to the wild out into the running community. See the descriptions below. If you’d like one , tell me which one and why. Choosing may or may not be random. You’ll never know. ;o)
Skirt #1
Mondetta Leap Skirt in a size small.

I really liked this skirt, but the undershorts basically turn into “bun huggers” as I run. There isn’t enough glide in the world to make that work for me. Worn once for a trial run to write the review.
Skirt #2
RunningSkirts Athletic Skirt in size 2 (I think. I need to check.)

This is a really cute skirt and I thought it was going to be “the one”, but when I raced in it, the skirt slid down and the shorts moved up. I felt like a whole lot more skin was showing at the end of the race than at the beginning! I think the skirt may just be a bit too big. Worn twice – one time to race and I actually got 3rd in my age group that day. (So it’s got good mojo).
Skirt #3
Skirt Sports KickStart skirt in size small
Black Skirt with Pink compression shorts. This one was *so close* to being perfect. In fact, I was pretty happy with it until I tried on the Happy Hour Skirt. Not offensive in any way, but I’d rather wear shorts for training and my Happy Hour/Girl skirts for racing, so I’m giving it up. Worn once for a race, but I can’t remember which one. LOL
If you’d like one of the skirts, leave me a comment as to which one. I’d love to know if you have run in skirts before or if you are just interested in trying one. I will decide where they are going by Wednesday of next week and do my best to get them in the mail before I fall off the planet go to cub scout camp.
Ooohhh….I love skirt #2. I have two skirts in my possession right now. The first is a Mondetta (your skirt #1) and I’m not thrilled with it. The skirt I run most in is a basic, no-frills cheap Champion I got at Target. It also is not the greatest, but for runs of 6 miles or less, I can deal with it. I’ve tried on various other skirts and always find the shorts to be less than I need to cover my ample thighs :).
As an aside, that picture of you in Skirt #2 is one of my favs of you running! You just look terrific! Toned, happy and beautiful!
I should do this with all the skirts I got before I found my true love skirt. They are basically just wasting away in my drawer. That is a great picture in the red skirt.
I have yet to venture into the skirts… I am still with the skirt/capri route… one day, one day!
I would love love love #2. I only race in skirts… it’s like magic power! And I need a good red one for my Air Force Half in Sept… in which I’ll be going all red/white/blue. Plus it will match the RUN FREE shirts I designed for my USO fundraiser. I’ve been shedding pounds and my other RunningSkirts skirts no longer fit me… they slide right down, literally! Oh, pick me, pick me! 🙂
I would love skirt 3. I’m not sure if it would be more appropriate to call me a skirt junkie or a skirt slut. I really like skirts, and I like all different kinds. My current favorites are lululemon, but I also love runningskirts.com, and I have a really cute UA one, too.
I would love #3. I’ve been dying to try compression shorts since I had to give up wearing tights when the weather got warmer. Like Teresa I also have the target skirt that I run in for both training and races (I ran my first half in it), but I do find it’s like your #2 skirt (shorts ride up, waist comes down) as I run and forget about going to the bathroom, once I’ve messed with my perfect alignment it is almost impossible to get it back.
Also, I wanted to thank you for your advice about my first half. Things didn’t end up like I thought they would, but you gave me lots of great advice on fueling that I’m taking with me.
I have never worn a skirt running but am interested in trying one, so I’m not sure which one I would want. I like the colors of pink and black on the third one but I will take any. 🙂
I would really like to try skirt #2. I like the style of ruuningskirts brand, but I’ve only tried the ones with briefs, which I’m not a fan of (I really need the compression shorts underneath). So I’m hoping you’ll pick me for that one!
P.s. I haven two brooks skirts with compression shorts that I really like. I think the stle is brooks pr ii skort. You should consider giving that a try
I’d love to try the running skirts skirt. (#2). I have a few skirts and I have some that I do like and some that I do not. I got a couple bibbity skirts when they were done with their business for $10.00 a piece and they feel pretty great. I’m used to shorts under them but theirs only have undies but that way there is no riding up I guess!
I would be interested in skirt #3. I LOVE the PINK! I have never taking the running skirt plunge before, but have been wanting to. There is something about embracing being girlie when rocking it out on a long run that appeals to me. I am training for my first Marathon this fall, so I would definitely get a lot of use out of it in the coming months. They are all pretty cute!
I would love to try the third skirt! I’ve never worked out in a skirt before but think it looks so cute! What an awesome way to be feminine while kicking butt! ;p
I love running skirts and finally found a comfortable one – #2 is perfect for me. I broke my ankle on Dec 29, 2011 and am still recovering. I hope to run a half marathon again Mar 17, 2013!!
I’d love skirt #2! I’ve been wanting a red one for my 4th of July 10K and was going to make one if I wasn’t able to find one! If it is in fact a size 2 it would be perfect! And it has good mojo!
I would love to try skirt #3! I have a Running Skirts Athletic skirt (size 2) and it is okay (so I will take #2 if #3 is not available ;)), however I just found my newest favorite skirt – the Brooks mesh PR skirt. It is the first skirt I have found where the shorts don’t ride up because they have an awesome gripper along the bottom! The waist is a little loose in the medium…I tried a small but it was too small. I think it’s just a matter of me getting used to it though because I know the skirt isn’t going to fall off with the way the shorts are. Anyways, this is awesome that you ate doing this!!
ha – stupid auto correct. *are doing this.
Not for me (because I need the next size up), but any of the three would be PERFECT for my best friend. I know she wears a small in Skirt Sports and a 2 in Running Skirts and loves them both.
I am a total running skirts convert – they are SO much more comfortable than shorts! I think it’s actually what prodded me into wearing more skirts/dresses in the summer, it’s more comfortable sometimes. It’s not about being girlie to me (I’m not very girlie), it’s really all about comfort. 🙂
I love #1 – have been wanting to try a more girlie style skirt!
Ugh…I am having the same issue. I just returned 3 skirts. I am going to check out the skirt sports.
I would love #3, or #1. I have a couple runningskirts ones, but I think I am short in the torso or something because the athletic ones feel like they go so high on my waist. My faves are skirt sports ones too.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…. skirts look so fun to run in. I don’t know if that’s the case, but it sure does look like it and you have so many options. Guy shorts are boring and always in solid colors, MAYBE we get a stripe. Great post!
LOL at sending them back into the wild! Great idea. I’m sure you’ll find happy thighs and buns to love those skitrts!
Believe it or not, one of my favorite running skirts is from Target. It’s a champion skirt. Compression briefs and a very light weight skirt over it. It holds up very well in long runs – I did an 18 miles race in it last year. Although can start to stick to me in super hot weather – but you can’t beat the price!
Skirt #3 please. I love running skirts and I love pink. I love the pink-peek-a-boo detailing!
Plus I love beer ( my frig currently has 5 different types of summer ales. I love Mad Fox! Plus, if I win, I can save you postage and pop by and pick up my winnings!!!!
I know I have a lot of competition already out there for this one but i gotta go with Skirt #2!! That’s an awesome picture by the way! I am already a skirt fan, but will never be able to afford a RunningSkirt skirt! My favorite ones come from Target, but there isn’t a lot of color variety there. Love the bright red! If for some reason my name came up and skirt #2 was gone, I would never complain about getting either of the others! 😉 runner_girl5k at yahoo dot com
I would love skirt #3 by skirt sports. I love skirt sport’s Gym Girl Ultra, so would love to try the kick start skirt
I dont want a skirt but did you try the Sports skirts cover girl skirt?
it has no shorts.
I love it.
I tried the ones with shorts and none of them fit me good
I’d love to be considered for skirt #2 or #3. I have one Running Skirts skirt with briefs and I wear it for every race. Now that I’m pregnant, though, things are fitting differently and rubbing in different places, so I’d love to try a skirt with shorts. Having a fun new skirt to wear when I’m getting back into shape after the baby would be good motivation, too! Thanks for offering these skirts to us runners! It’s a really great idea and so generous.
Toss me in for number 1 please! What a super cute skirt! I am a skirt addict, but all of mine are starting to get too big (I’ve lost a few) and I’m way too broke to replenish my collection 🙂
