1. Go check out my new gig. I’ve been offered the opportunity to do some mommy blogging for the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments. I’ll be offering tips/reviews on things to do in the area, highlighting some local area resources, and generally chatting about raising kids in the DC area. If you’re local to me or you need more stories and pictures of Jones and Shoo, feel free to join me there and give me a little comment love as I’m feeling a bit like I’m talking to myself right now. Don’t worry though, I’ll still be talking about running and beer over here.
2. Speaking of running, I’ve been slowly building my mileage, but I’ve been doing a horrible job of slowing down. Three days in a row now, I’ve done mini doubles. Tuesday I did 4 and then 1 barefoot outside. Wednesday, I did 1.3, came home, did some work I needed to get done, and then ran another 5.7 (followed by picking up Shoo from camp while I was still dripping. Yeah, I’m that mom.) Today I ran a quick 3.4, came home for a phone conference, and then did another 1.6 barefoot on the treadmill. I’m beginning to feel like I’m spending the better part of each day sweaty. Ewww! My goal is to do three 5ish mile runs a week, one 6-9 mile, and one double digit. I’m hoping that if I slow down a bit, my body will get used to five runs a week.
3. The barefoot running is still going well. The bottoms of my feet were pretty tender yesterday after the pavement run, so I waited until today to run barefoot again. The jump from 1.1 to 1.6 was a bit much for my achilles today, but I’ll stay at the 1.5ish distance for the next week. I’m looking forward to getting the vibrams, but I have two concerns about that. The first is that my toes are slightly crooked, so they may not fit right. The second is that I can’t stand the feel of a flip flop sandal, so what makes me think I can stand something between every toe? Hopefully I’ll get a chance to get to the store soon and find out.
And, just a heads up, this is post #496, which means post #500 and a giveaway are not too far down the road!
Wow, congrats on the new gig! Sounds like a great opportunity and I know you'll have a lot to offer.Nice job on all those miles and slowly building the barefoot runs.
barefoot on pavement …i just don't think i could do it. i think i would need those fibram five shoes or something…too wimpy
The new blog sounds like a neat opportunity! I'm sure you'll have many followers in no time!I'm so impressed with your barefoot runs!
Yay on the blogging [wait….and the miles AND the barefoot running]. I'm not surprised though – you are awesome!!
Nice new blog. Do you get paid for it? We saw a guy wearing Vibrams to work in at a Sweet Greens today. Seems like it might be quite comfy in those on your feet all day. Good luck with the barefoot running.
I am always "that" mom! Sounds like your mileage is going to be pretty similar to mine. I do 2 8 milers, a 5 and a 6, and a long run 10+ on the weekend. Going to check out the new gig now!
Congrats on the new gig! Very exciting!Great job on all those miles too!
Exciting stuff! Better to be THAT mom than the inactive couch potato! I'm impressed by all the mileage you are getting in with your limited schedule!
Congrats on the new gig! That's pretty cool.
I am so excited for your quicK accomplishments in Barefoot running! and total congrats on the side blog π
Very cool on the DC gig! A friend of mine (a mom to a two-year-old) moved to the area a few months ago – I'll pass it along to her!
You're the perfect person for your new gig!Nice job keeping up with your runs, even if you have to make them doubles!
How cool, congrats on the new gig!Looking forward to hearing how the vibrams work out.
I don't know how anyone could enjoy barefoot running, but you go girl! π
Nice job fitting in all those runs. I think it's totally okay to be "that" mom (of course, I may be biased, since I am that mom too!).
What a sweet new gig! Way to go! Barefoot running…scares me. I love to be barefoot, but am totally a sissy:) Have an amazing weekend!
way to go for the new blog gig. nice;-)and barefoot running, yah, with this new heel injury…that won't be happening anytime soon. My one piece of advice (you're asking right?:-)) is take baby, baby, baby steps with the process and stretch well afterwards.
Congrats on the new job! Awesome. You should check out Trekaroo – they are a family friendly travel review site that is just getting up and running. I became a Superoo and we have been to several attractions/product review for free. I have heard the Vibrams don't fit well if you don't have perfect toes/feet – so interested to hear how your fitting goes!
You might consider waiting on the vibrams until you get the barefoot mileage up. Running in Vibrams is not the same deal.
Congrats to you! Awesome!Sounds like you are being smart about the barefoot running. Keep it up, it's good for you!Have a great weekend!
I'm trying to get (back) up to 6 days a week. My coach assures me that if I slow down, I can run 50+ mile weeks, but it's hard to run that much, especially that slow! So I feel your pain π Congratulations on the new gig!
You did a great job with your new blog! Glad you have the opportunity.
I love that you're "that mom!" Your kiddos will look back on that fondly one day!Congrats on being up and running – with the new website writing and the running! You're doing awesome π
wowza – nice job on all the barefoot running! i'm impressed π
