I’m sure you are all disappointed that I’m not doing 30 this week, but that was a heck of a lot of work!
1. Today is an unplanned rest day. Normally, I’d hit the gym and see my old buddy. Instead, I’m going to take it easy and get some errands done. I’m training a lot harder for this marathon than I did for the last one and both my body and my mind are rebelling at the moment. I’m waking up tired (not sore or injured, just tired) and I’m stressing about spending so much time running and not enough time keeping up with life. I’m hoping that by really stepping back for my step back week, I’ll be ready to go next week. If not, I may scale back my mileage a bit for the remainder of the training. I chose a pretty aggressive (for me) plan, knowing that life might require me to tweak it.
2. Beer Geek and I have been talking a lot about my plans for when Shoo starts kindergarten. I really have no desire to go back to a 9-5 40 hour a week position. Thankfully, he is on the same page and wants me to do what makes me happy. (Yes, I realize I’m very lucky that we can manage that and that he’s supportive.) To that end, I really want to get my coaching certificate and maybe start thinking about some other fitness/health related classes. Think anyone would want to be coached by a “slow girl”? (The funniest part about this is that I was totally a “career girl” before we had kids and was working hard to climb the “ladder”. )
3. I’ve been obsessed with brussel sprouts lately. I found a recipe on Closet Cooking for brussel sprouts, walnuts, and blue cheese. I nuke them and then fry them with just a touch of olive oil until they are nearly brown. YUMMY! Unfortunately, this has resulted in a house that smells a bit like burned cabbage. So, my other new obsession is simmering cinnamon or cloves on my stove LOL. I can only wonder how long it will be before I burn the house down.
Note to locals: The National Marathon is still looking for volunteers (looks like they could really use help at the expo and as course marshals), the Four Courts Four Miler is nearly full, and I still have a discount code for the Zooma half (email me at mom2shoo at gmail for that. I’ll give it to anyone that wants it, just don’t feel comfortable putting it out here).
Being a coach would be so much fun! I bet you would be a good coach because you are positive and encouraging!!
brussel sprouts, really? I wouldn't know where to begin with that!Sometimes those unplanned rest days are the best… as long as we don't beat ourselves up for it and feel guilty. π
Good for you listening to your cues that you may need to take it down a notch – hopefully the recovery week will leave you feeling refreshed!Yum, love brussels sprouts but they definitely don't smell good while cooking!
I am not a brussel sprout fan, not one bit and I have tried to like them! Good for you for listening to your body and being honest with yourself when you need a rest. I fnd it so hard to do sometimes π Have a great day!
Coaching and working in the fitness industry would be so fun! I have many days where I wish I had never gone to law school so I would have some choice about what to do now, because I definitely am over the whole working full time thing. Unfortunately, the nice big student loan debt doesn't give me much flexibility. Enjoy your step back week – hope it leaves you feeling recharged.
Ah! I have been having Brussel Sprouts twice a week! YUM! Just last night after I got the girls to bed, I got a craving for them and enjoyed them as a late evening snack! π
I think you would be an excellent coach! It is crazy how kids change things. When I got pregnant with my first I told my husband I would never want to be a stay-at-home mom. By the time I had to go back to work I was crying all the time that I just wanted to be home with my baby. When my youngest goes to kindergarten I plan to go back to work part-time, but for now am still so happy to be home with them.
Does a course marshal get to ask runners for ID?
I don't think you qualify as a "slow girl" π
I think being a coach would be awesome. There is a place for coaches of all speeds. I don't know your speed but I would love a slower coach who could relate to me but still help me improve.
i think you would be a wonderful coach! you always motivate me…so i know you will motivate others.
I think you'd be a great coach!
You would be an awesome coach! Go for it!
oh my gosh, you actually LIKE brussel spouts?!?!?ewwwwwwwww. yuck. LOL
I think you would make a great coach! Taking an extra rest day when you are feeling tired is the best thing. You will be unstoppable next week!
I think you'd be a great coach for sure! We are struggling right now with what I'm going to do after the baby is born. I do not want to go back full time, but we'll have to see if/how to manage with me working part time. Any tips?
I love your three!!!! I would love to be coached by you and think you'd be fabulous at it!! And I am obsessed with brussel sprouts, only started eating them about 2 months ago and I actually crave them!
