1. My running has been going really well this week. I ran four miles on Tuesday with my dad and we finished in 35:17, with the last mile clocking in at 8:34. We weren’t planning on going that fast and I was worried about what it would do to my mile repeats on Wednesday. Much to my surprise, I rocked them: 8:03, 8:05, and 7:56. (Hal Higdon said I should run them at HM race pace, but where’s the speed work in that?)
2. Today we are taking the boys to the Dodge County Fair. From what I’ve heard, you can get just about any food you can think of fried or on a stick. Surprisingly, Wisconsin barely makes the top 25 in “fattest states” with 60% of its residents overweight or obese. It’s a good thing I’ll be balancing my fried cheese curds with lots of running and about 10 servings of vegetables fresh from my mom’s garden.
3. On your mark, get set, go… I’ve seen a couple of posts and mentions of people running the Mama Goes Masters virtual race. I’m entirely too flaky to keep track of what I’ve seen, so make sure you either email your results to me at mom2shoo at gmail.com or leave me a comment on a post. I need to know how far you ran (4, 8.25, or 40k, you may do more than one), your time, and a link to a race report if you write one. I’ll continue to gather them all and do a mega post around August 27th and announce all the winners.
Isn't it a bit disturbing that even with 60% of the population being obese, the state isn't one of the top 25 fattest? We are truly a country with a problem!I hope you all have a great time at the fair and then enjoying veggies from your mom's garden!Congrats on the great week of running! Woohoo!
Those statistics are startling! I read somewhere recently that the US military is finding many of its potential recruits unfit for service. many of them because of weight and general lack of fitness. Scary! You and your family, however, should fully enjoy your fried foods and "stick foods" at the fair — you've been active and can afford a little gluttony π If they have fried pickles, be sure to get some… they're heavenly!
Fried cheese curds sound heavenly. Enjoy! I passed on the fried bread dough at our fair and went for the maple creemee! Man it was good. It was made in the maple barn full of good things made with VT maple syrup!
Sounds like the Minnesota state fair! Have fun!
Nice runs!Enjoy the fair… sounds fun! Mmm, dep fried foods on sticks….
Ooohhh, I indulged in a fried oreo after a relay race in June and it was heavenly! Been cravin' another ever since. I'm excited to get my groove on Saturday and bust out my 8.25 miler. Have fun at the fair!
Oh I love a food day of fried food. Hey once a year . . . totally acceptable.
Have fun at the fair! I'll be sitting at my desk crunch numbers while you're eating fried cheese curds and on a faris wheel π
Great week of running!I won't be winning any time prizes in your virtual race so I will try to be…creative.Latest thing I hear at a state fair was a Krispy Kreme burger…seriously?!
Nice work on the speedy run!!
Running my virtual race on Sunday or Monday — yeah!Have fun at the fair! Yum — cheese curds. regular or fried, they are just as yummy!
I could sure go for lots of fried things right about now!! Just finished up the 40k run and I'll send it all to you in an email. 2 days, 20k each. Now my legs hurt, thanks!
I love fried cheese curds, especially with a cold beer!
my post is up! Thanks for hosting. That's the last 40K I'll run in August. So, yours is the first and the last.OK, I'm on vacation at the beach, and seriously, we ARE a country with a problem. HOLY HECK. I keep thinking, "And THAT's the bathing suit that you thought was the BEST choice for your figure?"
my best/fastest speed work days always come right after a day of good quality running. guess yours does too! nice job!
Nice work on the runs!As someone who grew up in the Midwest (Ohio)I can totally relate to that unhealthy state of being out there. Kind of scary.
I feel a bit lame, I've never had fried cheese curds. But thanks for clarifying about the virtual race details!
Glad you are getting some good running in – before it gets hot again. π Hope the fair was fun!
Anything fried sounds like a good thing. Fried twinkies? What a pleasant surprise THAT was when I finally tried it π
Gotta love fair food. At least it's only once a year.Hope you had a good time at the Dodge County Fair. I used to live in Beaver Dam, so I ended up having to go to the fair for work every year.
