What’s the most unconventional race you’ve ever run? Have you run a race like North Carolina’s “Take Pride in your Hide” naked race? Does your local running group have “prediction runs” where everyone guesses their finish time, and the winner is the person who has the closest guess? How about a Mud Run? If you could make up a wacky race, what would the twist be?
In reviewing my races, I realized I’ve never done a race that could be considered unconventional. Heck, I’ve never even done a trail race. Sheesh. I need to get out there and find something fun to do. I’m running a Jingle 10K in December where you wear bells on your shoes. Wacky!
There are a bunch of slightly unconventional races on my “love to do some day” list, but even that list doesn’t currently have any naked runs or mud runs on it. My list includes “beer runs” like the Dogfish Head Dash, the Boilermaker, and the Harpoon Brewery run; a wine tasting race, races that cross borders like the Detroit Marathon; and races that take advantage of cool locations, like the Sandia Peak run, running up Mt. Washington, or running over the bridge in Charleston. See, I’m boring.
As you might expect, if I were to create a run, it would involve running from brewpub to brewpub. The ease and distance of this run would depend on the location. It would be a fair distance if we did one here that encompassed DC and Virginia. It’s be a short little run if we were to do it in say, Eugene OR where Beer Geek and I once hit 5 brewpubs in one evening. In fact, a brewpub race might be the only race I could EVER get Beer Geek to run.
Earlier this week, I hit 900 miles for the year. Assuming continued good health and no injuries, I should have no problem hitting my bare minimum of 1000 miles this year or surpassing my maximum number per year of 1010. I’m on track to hit my goal of 1030 that I set a few weeks ago, but my stretch goal of 1111 looks to be a little too much of a stretch.
Ok, need to get this posted. I paused for a moment to run upstairs and ended up moisturizing my face, remembered that I needed to do a load of laundry, headed to the basement, paused in the kitchen to start the dishwasher, grabbed the shredder basket to return to the basement, discovered a load of laundry in the washer, moved that to the dryer, realized there was a enough for a load of laundry already in the basement, started that, grabbed dry running clothes off of the treadmill, headed back up to put on make up, and fill the laundry basket… Then I remembered I was in the middle of typing a post LOL.
