I know that all sounds so negative, but really the only negative is the tired.
1. I’m a night owl. I’ve struggled my whole life to get myself to bed at a reasonable hour. Jones is a night owl as well and I’m battling the same issues with him. We’ve managed to get into a routine, so he’s usually “lights out” by 11 in the summer and 10:30 during the school year. The problem I’m having is that, despite having time to myself in the house on school/camp days, I seem to need some downtime after he goes to bed. This means that most nights I don’t go to bed until around midnight. Since I get up before 7, I’m pretty tired by the end of the week! (And people wonder why I don’t run in the morning…)
2. I can feel every.single.muscle. in my butt and thighs today. I have a bit of soreness in my upper body from the burpees and mountain climbers, but most of it is in my lower body. And I love it. I love the feeling that I actually pushed my body in a new way. Am I the only person that thinks that DOMS is the greatest feeling ever? And, yes, there will be more HIIT in my life. Wow!
3. It’s time for Thirsty Thursday!
Today’s brewery is Tommyknocker. Tommyknocker is a Colorado brewery that distributes across much of the United States. They have five core beers and quite a few seasonals.
Imperial Nut Brown is one of Tommyknocker’s seasonals. Like many beers with “Imperial” in the name, it is high alcohol. Clocking in at 9%, this is not a beer for quaffing. This beer pours dark and is sweet and heavy with a hint of maple. Notice that I poured two glasses from the one bottle. This makes an excellent beer for sharing. I found this to be a nice “dessert” when combined with a handful of mixed nuts. YUM!
Small Patch Pumpkin is another of their seasonals. While there is an aroma of pumpkin, I didn’t find the flavor particularly strong. It tasted more like a spiced beer to me, which is good since I love spice and am not a huge fan of pumpkin in my beer. This is a much more reasonable 5% alcohol, so go ahead and have two if you want.
What’s your favorite style of beer? You’ll notice that most of what I’m featuring will be dark and malty. I’m so not an IPA girl.
(I dont drink but…) truly I think we are who we are!
there are many times I WISH i were of the owl persuasion!
I may not be an “imperial” fan, but I love nut browns. It’s not quite cold enough here for me to truly enjoy them, but I’m getting excited. (Fall seasonals are my favs!)
I love seasonal beers, I think Octoberfests and Pumpkins are some of my favorites!
Jones is in bed after me! I usually hit the sack at 9:30. I need 8-9 hours of sleep every night or I just plain don’t function very well.
I’m not a huge beer drinker, but anything with pumpkin in the name is worth a try, in my book!
I don’t drink but I do like coffee and tea 🙂 Medium blend coffee and herbal tea!
I’m not a night owl at all! My trademark as a child was falling asleep at the dinner table…at restaurants! lol
I’m such a night owl – it’s a continual battle for me since oddly enough I prefer to run in the morning or I’m afraid I won’t get it in.
I’m not much of a fan of spice in my beer either. I like a good nut brown ale and porters!
