The topic for Tuesdays on the Run today is “Best Race Ever.” When Patty, April and I came up with the idea, it immediately brought to mind my friend, GBA Girlfriend, who always has the #bestdayever.
And why is it the best day ever? Because there is something good in every day. And I feel much the same way about any race I complete.
Sure, sometimes it rains so hard you are afraid you’ll lose a contact.
Or it’s so cold you don’t think you are going to make it through.
Or the flipside, where you are so hot that you are sure you are going to pass out from the heat.
Yes, I have races that are favorites:
any race put on by Mainly Marathons…
And yes, there are races that have had major screw ups that should not have happened and races whose courses make me not want to run them again.
But they are all the best race ever. Why? Because I got up that morning able to race. I got out there on a course and challenged myself. Because I conquered whatever challenges and finished. #bestraceever on the #bestdayever
Tell me about your best race. What about it made it the “best” for you?

For running races, my best race ever is probably either the Disney Wine and Dine Half or the North Face Endurance Challenge 26.2 in NY. Neither were best performances but I really enjoyed both of them. Wine and Dine for the costume and environment (I dressed like a German beer girl) and NF because it was beautiful and a true challenge but lovely people running and great aid stations and I met Dean Karnazes.
I’m linking up my Ragnar recap because it was such an awesome experience. The camraderie, the crazy, the fun!
I’ve certainly had my share of “hot” races to the point where I didn’t want to finish ( but I did) and I’ve had my share of “cold” race where I didn’t want to start ( but I did)! Looking back each race had a redeeming quality!
This is fun! My best race from a execution standpoint would be Broad Street 10 miler, where I ran a PR!!
My best race from a logistics, fun, family standpoint is Army 10 Miler. It’s a tradition to run with my mom – and then BJ was added to the “mix”. From there my sister have run too. It’s a family affair and I love it!
What a great take on this weeks topic! I agree with you what makes a race the best race and I couldn’t have said it better myself! Thanks for hosting 🙂
I love it! Yes, race day is always the best ever. My friends and I like to say that there is nowhere else we would rather be than running this race right now.
Even though my leg blew up during the last 5k, I’d say mine was the Eugene half in 2013. I PR’d and I got to run on that track.
Such a fantastic attitude about it all! You’re absolutely right – they’re all the best ever in some way. 🙂
Love all of those pics! Nike was one of my favorites too.
Love that mentality! Every race does have something to celebrate in it!
Totally agree, I don’t regret any race that I have run. Everything about each one makes us a stronger runner! Love this perspective!
Spot on! I didn’t post because I couldn’t pick just one. One of my kids used to declare “it’s the best day ever” — a wonderful mentality for all of us to adopt.
I had a race that was so hot I thought I was going to pass out. I swore I wouldn’t run it this year…then I signed up again LOL!
Great list and yes, we all have those races that are wet, hot, cold, windy, etc, but you’re right, they are all awesome and there’s always something good in each day!
All best races in one way or the other for sure.
Look at all of that rain…..I am traumatized by rain.
I have best for meeting a goal, PRing, my 1st race.
Looking forward to new BESTS this year 🙂
Best race ever? Last fall’s Chicago marathon. But I think you guys are so tired of me talking about it! I’ve had a lot of great races besides that one…
Love your perspective…if you can finish a race, that’s really one of the greatest things! Running takes us through a lot of highs and lows!
I totally agree that there is always something good in every race, no matter the circumstances! My fave race was the Tri States marathon, just because it went through 3 states, and that was pretty awesome.
I loved seeing all of your race pictures. I’m running a half next weekend and am hoping the weather cooperates! I once ran a race in a major snowstorm in JUNE! It was crazy, but it was also one of my favorite races. I would much rather run in the cold though because I absolutely cannot run in the heat. I completely fall apart!
