February has never been my favorite month. It tends to be grey and we often get our big snowstorms then. Even if it’s not a snowy month, I’m usually mentally over winter by the time it ends. And this February was just too erratic to be loved.
These happened just about a week apart:
I swear I spent the month on a weather roller coaster. I never seemed to be dressed quite right and my body couldn’t adapt to the temperatures at all. Virginia is known for some crazy weather swings, but this month may have been the most up and down we’ve ever had. I’m pretty much convinced that Mother Nature was drunk.
If I were to grade my non-running life, I’d say February was a low C. It was just a crazy month with too many things going on. I fell behind on work, on our taxes, on blogging… well, pretty much on everything except running. On the bright side, we did finally get gorgeous new tile around the tub in one of our bathrooms! (Anyone who knows me well knows that I’d much rather pay for races and vacations than to upgrade things in my house…)
But this is a running blog and today is Tuesdays on the Run. Today we are rating our running month, not the rest of our lives. So, how’d that running go in February?
I’m going to give it anย A. I got some solid speedwork in, including a 5K race.
I bumped up my “long run” distance just a bit and had a great 7.5 mile run. I also managed two 5.5 mile runs at my goal pace for the GW Parkway 10 miler. I even managed enough planks to lose a couple of inches around my waist!
I’m running a touch behind on my goal for 100 miles a month, but I only have 7.7 miles left. Guess how far I’ll be running today?
And here we are, ready to start March. I need to double down this month. It’s time to get the mileage up, with some double digit long runs. I also have two local races – a 10K and a 4 miler. While a true PR is unlikely, I’d like to see some sub 10 minute mile paces at both races.
How did your February running go? Are you as ready for spring as I am?
If you want to join us for Tuesdays on the Run in March, here are the topics…
March 7 – how do you create your race schedule;
March 14 – Talk to us about St. Patrick’s day – do you have traditions, a favorite race, a costume you’ll be wearing?;
Mar 21 – Sell us on your favorite local race. What do you love about it and why should we come run with you?;
Mar 28 – Rate your month (and tell us if you want to keep this topic)

Great job with your running this month despite the crazy weather! It was definitely tough to adjust when the temps changed 40 degrees within a few days. I was happy to see the warm weather, but it definitely is confusing.
Congrats on losing inches!
Our weather was much the same, only on steroids — much less heat (although still some record breaking) & a lot more snow.
The running was good . . . and hard.
Yes!! I’m definitely ready for spring. We’ve had some crazy weather too but there’s nothing like a steady stream of good running days! And I love the skirts!!
You crack me up. “This February was too erratic to be loved.” As an ADHD kid, this makes me question if my parents loved me ๐
Jan/Feb are my least favorite months too… I always look forward to March, because even though we can still get a crazy snowstorm, the end is in sight! That’s impressive you stuck so well to your running, despite all the other busy life stuff going on- definitely worth an A!
Sounds like a great month! And I love that tile!!
February was a great running month for me–in spite of all the health issues I encountered. I’m so grateful for that–keeps me positive!
The weather was just crazy! I’m over it and just want it to be spring now!
Nice job with the planking! I’ve got a little streak going myself and definitely like the way my clothes are now fitting ๐
The new tile looks great! Thanks for the link-up.
I am so ready for Spring and we have lucked out the past few weeks in February with temps in the 70s…..yay! Nice bathroom tile! Good thing I do not own a house, so I do not have to pay for updates or remodeling. Love going on racecations instead!
Congrats on a decent running month.
Mine was so so because I was sidelined with the flu.
Our weather was crazy too – warm one day, cold the next. Hope the warm weather comes back and stays.
I love that new tile. I do know the headaches of upgrading rooms though. My parents upgraded their bathroom in Boston when I was in high school, then upgraded the kitchen and knocked down the wall to open up the dining room. At least I was in college for that, and was in the dorm. But I heard the stories.
I am so ready for spring. Winter is dragging on and on and on. I am tired of being cold! Great month. Love the bathroom improvements
Great month of running! Good job getting in those planks ๐
Ooh your bathroom looks nice=enjoy! February is usually my least fave month too but this year has been so great with the warmer temps. I like this topic and I will be posting mine on Friday. #betterlatethannever!
I’m ready for spring even if we didn’t get much of a winter here. Your bathroom tile looks awesome!
February was a crazy month for running weather no matter where you lived it looked like- I agree it is hard for the body to adapt! Impressive work on the planks! I am with you and would like to see more miles under 10 minutes- good luck!
Great job on your 100 mile goal for each month! I made it 70 miles for February. The highest mileage I’ve had in a long time!
Wow, weather is so nutty these days! Being in Florida, I’m used to that, but I’ve been seeing a lot of other states fluxuating too.
Nice job on the planking! I’m getting daily planks back into my schedule, they really make a difference.
My February running went pretty well. I had two half marathons (well, there was a 3rd, but had to DNS it due to a family emergency), and I did well on both. So, I’d give it a B for sure at least.
I’m going to try to join you for the March 7th link up, love doing link ups when I can. ๐
