Word on the street is that it’s spring. I’m not really sure I believe that since I ran a half marathon this past weekend wearing all the layers. All.of.them. But supposedly it’s here. Which means it’s time for our Tuesdays on the Run discussion of how your spring training is going. Do you have an “A” race coming up?
My “A” race this year is Ragnar Pennsylvania. I know that you are thinking “but you run Ragnar every year, how does this require training?” Well, I’m running my first Ultra Ragnar. Yep – half the runners, twice the miles. Now I’m the mini miler on the team, so my mileage may not be more than some runners have in a regular Ragnar, but I don’t know the plan yet. So I need to train to run about 30 miles over the course of 36 hours. On these hills.
My plan? Run all the races in the area plus some long training runs. I kicked off “training” with the 17.75 and followed it up with a hilly trail race (recap soon). Then I ran a half marathon.
Coming up I have the National Women’s Half Marathon and the Frederick Running Half Marathon. Hopefully I can sneak in a few more races between then and Pennsylvania. Or you know, actually run long on my own, which I haven’t done in months. Oops.
Hmm, maybe I need to run 6 times in 36 hours – THAT would be interesting.
How’s your running going? Did this extended winter throw a wrench into your plans too?

Winter has definitely stuck around much longer than I would like. I had no idea Ragnar had a Pennsylvania race. I probably won’t be able to do it this year but I will keep that in mind for next year.
I just feel like lately winter has impacted my motivation. But I don’t have any races planned, so that doesn’t help either. That Ragnar Ultra sounds like it will be an awesome experience!
Unfortunately this neverending wnter and pregnancy have both hurt my training this year. I hope I haven’t lost all my fitness!
You make me tired. ๐
Running has been going well lately. Thankfully being sick didn’t really effect my plans. So just rebuilding my base, really.
This winter/spring is just plain tiring. But I know you know that already.
That is awesome for being in an ultra team for Ragnar! Just being in a “regular” team is tiring. Now this is twice as much! I’ve done one and would like to do it again. Unfortunately, the Chicago one was moved from June to May and that makes it a little bit hard to get away from school.
My A race is coming up in less than 2 weeks – Hyner View Trail Challenge. It’s only a 25k, but it has me shaking in my boots! Its reputation is that it is the toughest race around. I did a tune-up half last weekend. I linked up the review to your site. Your Ragnar sounds amazing – challenging, but fun. It passes right through my hometown (Lancaster), and I would love to do it sometime. Good luck!
Gulp! That elevation! The mileage! My stomach cramped up just looking at it. But if anyone can do it, it’s you!
That Ragnar is right up my alley! I would totally go for longer stages for more miles ๐ The weather has been bananas for is in the midwest as well – speaking of which, we are going to have 2 days of mid 80s for the high and 50s for the low…and then PROMPTLY changing to low 50s for the high and 20s for the low – go home spring, you’re drunk!
I sort of want to try a Ragnar (especially the ultra team!) but I do not do well with sleep or food deprivation which I feel like is a big component of the Ragnar experience LOL
There’s definitely no food deprivation when I run Ragnars. If anything I eat way more than I run off LOL. Sleep deprivation is a real thing though…
That’s a lot of races and miles. Good luck! When is the ultra Ragnar?
That sounds like it’ll be a fun race! And kind of hard with all those hills ๐ I look forward to hearing how it goes!
I am always amazed (and jealous) that you can log so many miles without getting injured. For the Ultra do you run 6 times or 3 times w longer distances? I wonder which is harder?
I didn’t realize that there are Ultra Ragnars! That elevation – yikes! Good luck with all of your upcoming races.
Pennsylvania was my very first Ragnar, a dream come true! But yeah, those HILLS….phew! I know you’ll have a blast with your ultra team, wow!
