We’ve lived in our house for more than 15 years. Growing up, I moved at least every three years. The difference between the two is that you tend to declutter stuff every time you move. When you don’t move, you have to actually make an effort to declutter.
1. I hoard outgrown kid stuff. Partly because I’m lazy, partly because I never know when one of the kids is going to freak out about something they can’t find, partly because I think “oh, I can sell that.” Well, hello, my time is much better spent working than organizing. I got a call this week from one of the places I donate to. They have a pickup in my neighborhood on Friday.
This…

will be leaving my house tomorrow AM.
2. I’m an emotional hoarder. I still have the champagne bottle that was decorated for me on Bid Night by my sorority sisters. I have the big wooden letters that used to be on the front of the sorority house. (My dad made them. I took them when the house was closed down. I’ll be keeping them.) I still have the piggy bank I had growing up, even though it’s split in half.

Now I just need to figure out where to cash in this…

3. I’m a guilt hoarder. I buy (or get for review) running clothes that I like but don’t end up ever choosing when it’s time to run. This is where YOU benefit. I have three running skirts to get rid of. Each of them has been worn at most two times. Would it be awful of me to post them on the blog and offer them up to you guys?
What kind of hoarder are you? Do you keep emotional things like Emz? Or do you constantly declutter like Tonia?
This title alone made me cringe. Get rid of it all!! You can do it!
You DEFINITELY should give them away, especially if they’re SkirtSports, size medium! 🙂
I hate clutter & yet, am a total emotional hoarder. My best solution has been to stick stuff away in a storage unit and revisit it in a couple of years, when it just won’t seem so important after you’ve lived without it for so long.
Giveaway the skirts!! I would love to win one!
My motto has always been, “When in doubt, throw it out!” I love to get rid of stuff. And thanks to freecycle, I can give away the aren’t really worth donating anywhere too! But, my hubby is a saver, so I tend to wait to declutter the bigger items, when he is traveling for work.
Clutter makes me crazy and I’m finally learning to be ruthless with things and throw them out. I’m still an emotional hoarder when it comes to my kids stuff – which is a problem! I like the practice of putting things away in a box in the attic/basement if I don’t miss it in a year…out it goes!
I always feel so free when I get rid of stuff. Great job on decluttering and I think you should definitely do a skirt giveaway:)
Definitely giveaway the skirts. I think that’s a fabulous idea. I hope you and I are the same size.
I’m just a lazy hoarder. I don’t get around to cleaning up a lot of the time but when I finally do I’m ruthless.
Glad to see you going through some of that stuff! Its hard to get rid of stuff that we’ve kept for so long. I know I personally get attached to a lot of things.
I love to de-clutter and yet I am still a hoarder… I think it is more out of laziness. I can’t be bothered to put in the time & effort to actually go through things, and so the basement, closets, drawers, etc. remain cluttered to my dismay.
I constantly declutter. I am an organized hoarder. I have everything very organized in boxes and shelves and drawers. But I do have a lot of stuff. I have an especially hard time getting rid of books (that I will probably never read again) and I must be afraid of the apocalypse because I am constantly buying too much food and squirreling it away in drawers!
Good luck with your project!
I’m the same way (hoarding)….I think it’s genetic! 🙂
I’ve really been making an effort the past few months though and have decided to live with LESS stuff. It feels great!
and yes, I think you should give the skirts away.
Have a great weekend!
It’s so hard to find time to declutter when not moving! In our first three years of marriage my husband and I moved eight times. Now we’ve been in the same place for four years. I’m going to have to wade through and get rid of some stuff myself this summer. And yes, yes, yes! Do a skirt give away. 🙂
