When Patty, April, and I came up with this topic for Tuesdays on the Run, I really expected that I’d have a lot of races on my calendar. After all, I ran 13 half marathons last year and 16 half marathons so far this year. One would think I’d stay true to form and run a bunch of races this fall.
Apparently not.
I’m running Ragnar and then one Mainly Marathons race in October. I.have.nothing.else.on.the.calendar. And I’m actually ok with that. I just need a break. My mind. My body. My wallet. All of them need some down time.
So, let’s chat 2015.
I’ve got big plans again. No, I won’t be running 15 half marathons in 2015. I figure 17 in 2014 blows the whole trend anyways…
On my wish list for 2015:
- Frederick Running Festival – what can I say, I love this race. I’m trying to convince Kim that she should run it with me to get her Maryland race. I think it would be fun to do the Nut Job again…
- Zooma Annapolis – I had so.much.fun last year that I really want to go back again. I’m leaning towards the 10K this time though – all of the beautiful parts of the race and then I get to hang out longer. What’s not to love about that?
- Boilermaker 15K – Hello, race put on by a brewery! I’ve wanted to run this race for YEARS, but we just haven’t made it work. We’ve decided to do a vacation in the Finger Lakes again next year, so I will make it happen.
- And then the big one: I’m going to do 5 half marathons in 5 days again. But I’m throwing in a bigger challenge this time. I’m planning to run Center of the Nation (another Mainly Marathons series), but it’s in September. That means I have to run during the summer next year. Hmm, wonder if I can run 5 half marathons in a row, untrained… (I kid).
I’ll probably throw in a few extra local races or races that Kim convinces me to do, but those will be a bit more spur of the moment.
Tell me about your fall or 2015 racing. Do you have more on the books this fall than I do?

Wow 5 marathons in 5 days–you are awesome! I can’t even imagine training for it!
I’ve looked at the Boilermaker. It always seems so hot when it’s happening but it’s supposed to be great.
I wondered if you were going to do another 5 in 5 next year. I was telling Hunter (my youngest) about that just yesterday – he thinks it is very cool!
I loved the Frederick running festival and I will have to check out Zooma this coming year. I have heard about the mainly marathons series and they will be adding the Independence series this coming year so I might have to check that out! Good luck looks like you will be having a lot of fun!
Whew! Best of luck to you on the 5 marathons in 5 days! I can’t imagine the training that goes into just one, let alone 5. 😮
5 half marathons in 5 days… WOW! Great races on the calendar!!!
I only have one half planned for this fall. Next year I am hoping to run another full marathon, but that depends on if we are expecting or not as we are trying for baby #2!
I admire you for going after the 5 halves in 5 days again! You’re a rock star!
I’ve heard so many great things about Zooma Annapolis and Frederick. I’m definitely thinking of those for next year. Frederick is so close that I think I have to do that one 🙂
All sounds so fun! No doubt you will do all these and do a great job! My sister did 3 FULL Marathons in 3 WEEKS! Talk about crazy. I started doing 13 races in 2013 but could not keep up that trend!
I always wanted to do the Boilermaker. I did the 5k my first year running.
It’s been on my list for YEARS!
Wow-5 halfs in five days…that’s intense! Good luck on that! I have a 10k this weekend, a 10 miler in three weeks, Tough Mudder in November and 5k in December at which I’m trying to join the sub-30 club :-).
Good luck with your races! I love the 5 in 5 days. Such a fun event.
I can’t believe I’ve done all 5 of those states in your 5 in 5 already. So weird to be down to 15 states left to do.
I need to blog about DNS ing Alabama this weekend. That’s about how exciting and motivated I am right now.
But, I am looking forward to RNR St. Louis next month.
So excited to see how you like Ragnar DC!! Good luck this weekend!
😮 You didn’t do Alabama?!
What a coincidence, considering that I just commented that I’m thinking of doing the Mercedes Half in Birmingham in February…. just sayin’.
Ha, you are a funny funny girl.
Bummer. You could still join me. Just sayin’… I come with an awesome photographer…
Holy Moly Cannoli – 5 half marathons in 5 days is hardcore and intense. You have my applause and admiration.
It’s a ton of fun. This will be my 3rd time doing it…
The nut job and zooma are high on my list for next year 🙂 My excel sheet is going insane!
Cool! Maybe we could actually meet up!
Those look like some fun races on your calendar! I’m working on mine right now… right now I have RnR St. Louis, St Jude in Memphis, and Mississippi Blues paid for. I’m definitely doing Little Rock again in 2015 and maaaaaaaaaaaaybe the Mercedes half in Birmingham, AL, the week before that. Right now that’s all I’ve got planned for the longer distance races, but I’ll be sprinkling in local 5Ks here and there with maybe a 10K in November.
Come run a race on the East coast…
Well, let’s see. I plan on doing the Paris marathon in april. I deferred Frederick because of injury, so I would like to do that, and Zooma…prob the 10K as well. But after that….nothing! I’m sure there will be a few races here and there, but definitely no fall marathon. I may work on another goal half marathon for the fall, but that’s it. I need a break too!
Yay for a couple of races together!
For December I’m planning my comeback half marathon – the first half after having a baby earlier this year. Next spring I consider running a marathon in Vermont in May.
I’ve heard great things about the Zooma races! Good luck on those races, especially Ragnar!
