I like to travel. I always have. In recent years, I’ve added a new dimension to that travel: the racecation. Just this year alone, I’ve done 5 half marathons in 5 days and half marathons in Maryland, Delaware, Wisconsin, West Virginia, and Ireland.
What does that have to do with sports laundry detergent? Well, have you ever thought about what your running clothes smell like after you shove them into a plastic bag to stew for a day (or 14)? Add in a Ragnar and a kid who pretty much lives in his soccer uniforms and you have a recipe for a really disgusting load of laundry.
So, when Raw Athletics reached out to me to try Vapor Fresh® Sports Laundry Detergent(affiliate link), I was totally on board. I even waited to try it until I had my really nasty Ragnar stuff. I’m talkin’ clothes that were shoved wet into a plastic bag, zipped up and left to stew for a few days (yeah, I didn’t wash laundry immediately after I was done. Sue me.)
Verdict: I have a new laundry detergent!
Things I like:
- It’s made in the USA.
- It’s fragrance and dye free.
- The price is reasonable for a sports detergent. (You get a minimum of 36 loads out of the $22 tub and with an HE washer, it’s even more.)
- It’s meant for both performance clothes and regular clothes.
- It’s a local to me company.
I have now used it on 4 loads – one entirely my raunchy stuff from Ragnar and 3 mixed loads of my running stuff, Shoo’s soccer stuff, and regular clothes from the boys to fill up the load. I love that it comes out clean and fresh without smelling like perfumes. (I use only Free and Clear type detergents as I hate fragrance in clothes.) While I won’t make it my “everyday” detergent, I love that I don’t have to wait until I have a full load of performance clothes to wash my running clothes. Win!
Have you ever tried a sports detergent? What did you think? I’ve tried 3 now and so far Vapor Fresh is my favorite for the reasons listed above.
Disclaimer: Raw Athletics sent me the product to try for free. All opinions (and disgusting laundry) are mine. This post contains affiliate links.
OH I WANNA TRY THIS.
my WIN! is no longer WINning.
I have tried sports detergents and feel like they make a difference on my workout clothes, but I haven’t tried Vapor Fresh. I like that it’s made in the USA!
I just tried a similar product-there are def those items that the sweat smell doesn’t want to come out of huh?
I am testing a sports detergent now and I am extremely happy. Those tech clothes can be hard to de-funk so I am pretty excited the market is finally coming out with products to address this. #wowlinkup
I was just thinking about this today actually when I was washing my daughter’s soccer clothes and my son’s running stuff. I didn’t know there was really a sports detergent!
I have recently tried a different one and really like it as well. Sometimes those smelly clothes need more than the usual wash right?
I’ve tried a sports detergent once and it really didn’t live up to its own hype. But that was one brand once. I’d be happy to give other brands a go if they were available over here.
I’ve thought about trying a sports laundry detergent, but ruled it out as a waste of money. Maybe I’ll decide….do you think you dri-wicking clothes last longer by using it?
Hehehe I love your sign off-all opinions and dirty laundry are yours 🙂 I’m about to be out of town for a week and I know EXACTLY what you are talking about with dirty workout gear that’s been sitting around-eek! I’ve never tried sports laundry detergent, but will definitely be looking into it. Sometimes I’ve had to wash my laundry twice :/ thanks for the review! #wowlinkup
