Today marks the beginning of Week 7 of training. I ran 4 miles in 36:50 on the treadmill today. Not a bad time since I got on the treadmill five minutes after I rolled out of bed. It looks like most of my runs may be on the treadmill this week. I’m still trying to figure that out. I may run tomorrow morning or I may wait until Wednesday.
I’m getting to the point in training where my runs will start affecting our family life. I’ve always run 3 or 4 days during the week and a longer run on the weekend, but the length of the runs are starting to not fit in the time I have. I can do 4 miles when Beer Geek comes home and still get dinner on the table, etc and have the kids in bed on time. If I need to run 7 miles, I can’t do that. We can change things up, and I will when I can no longer avoid it, but we have a nice weeknight routine that gets everything done and allows everyone some”free time”. And Beer Geek and the boys like “routine”. They all do better with it. (Me, I’m a free spirit, but I’ve learned to conform LOL)
I’m also starting to stress about the logistics of the actual race day. How to get to the start, where to have the family try to see me, what to take, what to wear… The race itself doesn’t stress me out so much (except of course the fact that it’s darn long LOL). I’m from the area and have run many of the areas the race goes. I’m actually planning to run the first hill and the finish hill a few times for practice.
OK, must take a step back and relax. So, on a totally unrelated note, Jones started ice skating camp today and to my great surprise, LOVED IT! Woohoo! He plays soccer, but he hates running, so I think I’m going to continue the lessons this fall. He has too much energy, so it would be a fabulous outlet for him. Maybe I’ll have to take some lessons so I can actually skate with him. There’s an awesome rink walking distance from our house, so it would be an easy outing.
That’s a fast 4 miler! Especially on the treadmill, and especially right after getting up!
I don’t know what time you norm get up but what about getting up earlier? I know, know, know it stinks but you get used to it after awhile. I only run 3 days a week between 4-7 mi’s during the week and whatever long run 13-20 mi during the weekend, and I get it all done before everyone gets up.
