My kids have been out of school or delayed for more days than I can remember. They were out yesterday and will be again today. My elementary school child is making up time on “early release” days and I think my middle school kid just ran out of days. Too bad they can’t all go to school on Monday.
Ooh, did I say that out loud? Don’t get me wrong. I love my kids. Shoo and I even spent a fair amount of time outside yesterday. It took me 2 hours to shovel our sidewalk and dig out my car, which may not sound like it was that hard, but my sidewalk is not very long. Two hours of lifting heavy wet snow. Pretty sure I got my weight lifting in for the day. At least the snow was beautiful.
Wanna know what else I did? I ran 9 miles.
No, I did not run 9 miles in the snow. I ran them on the treadmill. In socks. I’m saving lots of wear and tear on my running shoes this year.
I was so sweaty by the end there was a puddle on the treadmill. Guess I can’t complain that I was cold, huh?
Have you seen this post? The Winter that Nearly Killed All the Moms. Yes, it is so that winter. Virginia is not *quite* that bad as power outages have not been widespread, but it’s been awful nonetheless. I used to be a lover of winter. I used to sing the praises of training hard for a spring full of races.
Mother Nature, you win. Summer is better. 99* with 99% humidity is better. I want sun. I want heat. I want summer.
Please don’t remind me of this when I’m running on my treadmill with a fan on me because it’s *too hot to run outside*.
I still like winter but oddly enough we aren’t getting huge amounts of snow. I am on my third snow day today but “in the old days” we would have gone to school today. They seem to be called more easily now. Our litigous society? I know I spelled that wrong.
I want a treadmill…………. =( As for the kids not being able to go to school Monday, I am eternally grateful that my son’s Taekwondo instructor decided to hold a mini camp on Monday that both my kids can go to. All day. Which means that my husband and I get a day off. Together. Wheeeee!!!
Can you send your kids anywhere? Or maybe just lock them outside to play in the snow for a few hours? (Speaking of snow, we’re supposed to get more. I hope it skips you guys so you don’t have to shovel anymore!)
My daughter IS going to school on President’s Day. They are using it as a make up snow day from December’s snowpocalypse. The still got MLK Day off in January though…
I guess you can’t do that in Virginia, what with the White House being so close by and all. Congrats on 9 miles!! I’m not hitting that big mileage until two weeks from now. Today and tomorrow are 8.
Hang in there with the kids at home. I know you are losing your mind.
nice work getting the miles in on the treadmill! I don’t have kiddos so the snow days don’t effect me in those ways, but I am still way over winter. I am ready for less layers, more sun, and less runs where I spend more time getting dressed and undressed than I spend actually running.
I need to read that post! Yes, I am done with this winter. I was before it began. My kids are now going until June 18, which is absurd. I can’t handle the days that they call it off for the threat of snow–sends me off the cliff!
My boys have school on Monday – looking forward to that day because Chris is off and I am choosing to be off so we can do something fun!!
I’m totally over winter!!!
I won’t remind you because I’ve officially started my summer countdown. No more snow please…!
I’d like it to be Autumn all year round. Summer’s too hot. The days are too short in Winter. Spring only lasts a couple of weeks. Autumn has that little cool edge in the morning which is perfect for running.
I’m sick of the icy paths forcing me on the treadmill, but not so sick of it to long for 99F and 99% humidity.Maybe that’s because my kids are out of the house at college. 😉
I’ve done my fair share of treadmill complaining, but the speed pick-ups, and hill training on my TM has made running outside feel even more magical!
I run faster on the ‘mill, but I don’t do any hill work. I find the incline feels off and I live in a hilly neighborhood, so I have plenty of outside hills to train on…
