Miss Zippy asked recently about everyone’s best run. Frankly, after my five half marathons adventure, I wasn’t sure when I was going to have a mediocre run again, much less a best run. Thankfully, it seems my body has recovered (just in time to run another half marathon this coming Sunday.)
I’ll admit, my last half marathon in New Mexico was perhaps the best run I’ve had in a long time. It was far from my fastest, but I felt strong and happy for most of the run. It was the first time in a long time I got to experience a runner’s high.
And then I started my recovery runs. OMG. They were just awful. Slow, painful, legs of lead. Like every runner I know, I began to question if I’d ever get back to normal.
Finally, yesterday, I did.
Perhaps it’s because I was dressed similar to this:
Spring has finally arrived!
Or maybe it’s that I ran my first “long” run since the races and it felt good and was a bit faster, even though I was running easy.
Or maybe it was because I was running in my familiar area on a beautiful day.
Whatever the reason, it was definitely a #bestrun.
And on the food front, I allowed myself some “no added sugar” jam on my PB&J today and a bit of maple syrup on my sweet potato and toasted walnuts that I had for dessert yesterday. I have to say, life is more enjoyable with a little bit of sugar. ;o)
Hooray for having your legs back and enjoying the running again!!!
So glad your legs are back under you! Recovery can be miserable. I know the sunny skies helped make my runs this weekend world’s better too!! There is something about not wearing 3 layers that just makes everything feel so much better 🙂
I think the lift in the temperatures has definitely helped–being able to shed all the layers and see some spring out there is a mood booster, for sure! Glad you are recovering.
Thanks for linking up!
My best run was a similarly paced 7 mile run….with NO KNEE PAIN!
I’m happy that you’re getting your running legs back. It always feels good to know that you are recovered and ready to go again. Of course, spring temperatures help, don’t they?
Spring weather is increasing the chances of “best runs”, loving it!
That definitely qualifies as a best run! The great running weather certainly helps!
Definitely-spring has sprung and today I had my #bestrun in forever. I had an audition for Delaware Theatre Co and knew if I finished early I could get a run in on the waterfront. I was getting nervous for Broad Street run coming up but I surprised myself with 8 miles! So relieved- think that audition adrenalin high is the reason.
That sounds like a great run. I definitely think that the nicer weather helps a whole lot!! Glad that you are recovering and feeling back to normal.
Glad your crazy legs are starting to feel better, you are my hero for doing 5 halfs in 5 days you know. 🙂
and yay for running in a skirt!
oh you motivated me to do mine…
