My run on Sunday was pretty much the definition of suck.  5.1 miles of struggling to keep moving.

Yesterday’s run wasn’t any better.  I’m used to long runs being hard, but yesterday took the cake.  And it was definitely physical not mental: I went out only planning about 4-5 miles and I met a friend at mile one.  Every single step was a challenge, my legs were tired, and my breathing was just off.  It was 9.2 slow, grueling miles.

So, today is a “rest from running” day.  I know that I need to run some back to back long runs and I know I benefit from forcing my tired legs to run.  But I also know sometimes pushing through exhaustion results in injury.  It’s a delicate balance.

I woke up this morning to a misty, grey day and temps in the low 40s.  While I can and do run in that kind of weather, today I’m going to take it as a sign that my one hour hot yoga class is enough exercise for today.

And the winners of my Black Friday Giveaway…

I think you’re just going through that early phase of getting the mileage back up–it’s hard! But in a few weeks things will start to get easier.

I was out there on the track (briefly) this morning. It wasn’t as bad as it looked from indoors but still a good day for hot yoga, I’d say!

I’m sorry you didn’t feel good with your runs. I hope a day off will help you out! Crappy runs always make me so mad.

I’ve never tried hot yoga. I imagine it really loosens up your joints.

I wish I had some running advice for ya. But alas…

You were right to take a rest day. Your legs will thank you for it on your next run.

Thank you for the gifts! I just got them today. You actually saved me as I signed up last minute for a 1/2 this weekend and was going to have to track down some Clif Blocks and you saved me from having to do it. :o)
